Some of you might know that I'm including a password system in my hack to open up .rar files that tell a story. The thing is, after checking my files, the .rar's that I've made don't ask for the password and just let people in freely. So if I could trust someone on here to keep a secret, could they help me out by enabling the passwords to the .rar files for me? I'll be waiting for a response.

Have you tried to open any file? Protection kicks in when you try to read files.

Yea, rar files let you *view* the file list without a password, but you got to enter it when you *open* a file. What program are you using?

I've been using winRAR and 7Zip, but i'll test your suggestions.

I tried it out but it didn't work. I swear my computers all hate me. So back to my original question. Can someone enable the passwords for me?

There's an alternative: you could upload your files to mediafire or somewhere else and have the game tell players the URL. |

RAR is one of the really bad archive formats. Heck, it's worse than ZIP.
RAR password algorithms are known to be weak, like the older RARs used to be so weak that a tool could change a bit to disable the password. What you want is to encrypt the archive file tree, so then the password has to be typed in when you read the archive. I recommend 7Zip because it's a much better format and secure. |

Also ELMario, I don't know what you mean by 'RAR is worse than ZIP'. I always found that RAR compresses better. That may be different for you, but for me, for a compression scheme, the ratio it can achieve matters more than whether it's open-source or not.

I decided to use .rar's because I wanted to tell a story, so there'd be something worth playing through. I knew people wouldn't care about it, so I've set a 'prize' at the end for the people who've completed the game. To avoid people cheating, I set the passwords and an additional requirement needed to get the prize. I really didn't give a f**k about SKJmin's .rar files. But this is seriously offtopic. I'm just looking for someone who I can send the .rar files and they'll enable the passwords for me because it's not working for me. I'm not looking for an analysis of .rar files, being told I'm a copycat, or other suggestions about how I should do it because the hack is finished and I've honestly put enough time in it already. So can someone please just do me this one little favour? Sorry, Ms. Nina, I couldn't see your post before because I was using my 3DS. But it doesn't matter now, as I've managed to fix the problem. So .rar files can do it.

Nothing's ever compulsory with my hack, nothins is required to install if you just want to get to end of the game. If you don't want to follow the story, then don't. It's simple.
