I still think its a major annoyance, though. I also dislike that it was changed like that for Kuribo64 too.

This.

People just hate changes, don't they?

if enough people don't like it, then maybe something might get done. I get what you're saying tho.

Start a petition, then.

No, some changes are for the better. Others are for the worse. Many of the changes brought on by the Kuribo64 update were good, others weren't so good.

Suggestion: Remove the mobile sidebar with all of the navigation. I would rather have it at the top of the page than in a stupid sidebar.

I completely agree with this. *IRC blows up*

Have some proof:

That looks terrible. Now have a reason this suggestion is a good thing:

<TRS> Given phones and how they're longer than they are wide, it makes sense space-wise to move the bar to the top of the screen.
<TRS> It could be done without affecting tablets too much as well.

An regardless of whether that change actually happens, the toggle whatever that brings up the sidebar needs to be on-screen at all times. It's incredibly annoying to have to scroll to the top when you want to change pages.

I think he was talking about the navigation sidebar that scrolls with the page in the regular layout, not the mobile layout.

I thought when he said "mobile" he meant the mobile view.

I guess you can consider that a new suggestion.

Also, you guys can get rid of it if you click on the 'mobile view' link at the bottom. That would solve the problem

Ah, I see.

Well then: consider how well the old K64 mobile layout was working on phones with small displays. Consider how many Android apps have settings/menus in sidebars.

And, most importantly: consider that the sidebar is optional. It only shows up if you click a button.

It is optional, but there should be an easier way to get to the navigation IMO.

The same place it was on the old Kuribo64 mobile layout. Right under the online users in the normal view, at the top on the mobile view.

When making a request for a feature, the response should not be to stop using said feature. That tells me that my suggestion was just a waste of time and that the staff doesn't think that feature is worth using in the first place.

That is irrelevant. Whether the feature is optional or not has no bearing on the validity of my suggestion.

Dirbaio tried to code that, but fixed positioning on mobile browsers is so fucked up it's not even funny. And he didn't like how it turned out so he changed it to be the way it is.

Let me explain:

We decided to put a sidebar mainly for two good reasons:
- Links can be big and easy to tap. It's recommended that touch targets are the size of a finger, which is 40-50 pixels. If you put links at the top of the page you'll have to make them too small to be comfortably tappable.
- Removes clutter from the top of the page. The important stuff is the content, not the navigation. You don't want to scroll down every page you load just to see the contents. This is the same reason the logo and online users are in the sidebar too, and the breadcrumbs were reduced to a "Back" button.

So you see, having a sidebar is objectively better than putting the links at the top. It's not a matter of taste. And you see, many mobile apps do it, for the very same reasons: GMail, YouTube, Facebook, Hangouts.

So no, asking us to "remove the stupid sidebar" is not a reason to change this.

The only problem with that is that it doesn't work properly in mobile devices with smaller resolutions (the picture above is from a 2nd-gen ipod touch). Once you open the sidebar, you are not able to scroll. The logo just wastes space and is the reason it stretches like it does in the picture, and there is a really big gap in between the navigation links. The online users also doesn't wrap properly and it's inclusion in the mobile toolbar is a bit questionable.

EDIT: The sidebar does scroll properly when I use mobile view on my laptop, but I still have to scroll down just to see the whole toolbar. There is no reason for all that unused space.

EDIT: If somebody could post a picture of website with the toolbar open on a modern phone or similar, that would be much appreciated. I'd like to know if the problem is simply my ipod.

I grant you the part about the logo and onlineusers, those can just be removed. But for the part where opening the sidebar makes you unable to scroll, there's a simple reason: the sidebar may not fit in every phone's screen. Thus, on smaller screens, you will need a way to be able to reach the bottom of the sidebar. Basically this is handled by letting the user scroll into the sidebar and not the rest of the page.

Right, that thing really sucks for phones. Atleast make the sidebar hidable or something...

Also, a plaintext 'NSMBHD' at the top would be better than a shrunk down banner that looks blarg, imo.

When you click "mobile layout" to change the layout, it changes only for the page you're on currently. Not all the pages you'll visit on NSMBHD Not the other pages where you haven't "cliked" the "mobile layout" thing. So you have to "click" it on each page on NSMBHD.

EDIT: Only for the last post and maybe other pages.

I've fixed the mobile layout button (it was wrong cookie path). You will need to reload the page and clear the cookies for it to work.

Also,  STORMENT, what mobile browser version and OS version is that? It works fine for me here :|
EDIT: Yes, it's Firefox. And it's now fixed. Enjoy!

EDIT2: Also I forgot to mention that the newer mobile layout allows you to open the sidebar with a swipe. No need to scroll all the way to the top
