Or you could just make large levels with multiple paths.

Thing is with download play and large levels is, the downloader actually has to download the levels. Those small levels already take quite a while to download. Large levels, and more than 5, would be a nightmare.

Maybe, though I think the models, backgrounds and music would take up more download time. Maybe you want to reduce the time, you could blank the unused VS files (Spiny, Banzai Bill etc).

I suppose so. Anyway, is playing local wireless with 2 real DSs with R4s possible? Is there a check to see if the ROMs are the same? Or does it all just desync?

If you have two flashcarts, there is no problem. If you are using download play, you can't do stuff to the ROM that mean the checksum is changed. To prevent NSMBe from changing the checksum, tick "DLP mode" in the editor settings.
