I think what grid means is that a lot of people (particularly on GBAtemp) herpa derping about Gateway bricking 3DS consoles, so if he made a NSMB2 hack it would probably be overlooked. The Gateway card could brick Your 3DS even if You used it correctly. It has been confirmed by many knowledgeable people from the scene. The brick code was introduced in FW v2.0b2 and was an attempt to brick 3DS consoles of CLONE card users. Unfortunately it also bricked legit GW card users 3DSes. Right now it seems that the brick code has been removed, and instead before booting into the GW mode the Launcher.dat checks if the genuine GW card is inserted into the 3DS. No bricks were reported by people using FW newer than v2.0b2.
