Uh, time flies.
For NSMBHD's third birthday, the staff is glad to present you NSMBHD's birthday hack! This hack is made of levels contributed by the community. Enjoy! Aside from that, where are we going now? It's hard to tell. For a while, we have been observing a decline of the interest in ROM hacking generally speaking, but Nintendo's Mario Maker may very well change that. By putting level editing in the spotlight, it may very well bring back some interest in ROM hacking. Maybe this will be Acmlm's Board all over again. Oh well, I'm speculating, don't take my words for anything serious. Only time will tell. _________________________ Kuribo64 - zrghij |

Still, we had worse times. Remember the days back on Jul?
Not the early NSMB Hacking time. I am speaking about the late days on Jul like 3 months before NSMBHD or "Dirbaios Borad" has been opened. That was the time when everybody gave a fuck about NSMB Hacking. Like 2 posts per month regarding NSMB. And one of those came from me, ray or Dirbaio. Now NSMB Hacking has still more interest than back then. Still, I prefer the good old days when nothing has been discovered. You could amaze people with the most simple graphic hacks. To impress people (and make them happy) now you need to do tons of ASM Hacks. Or probably it is just the nostalgia when I revisit the old forums on Jul looking at old stuff. Everything was better years ago. |

Posted by Freeze There was MarioFanatic64, Hiccup, krutomisi, Garmichael, and me. Though 2 post per month isnt that accurately IIRC. We used to post like 2-3 times a week. _________________________ |

Posted by Freeze To impress people (and make them happy) now you need to do tons of ASM Hacks. Really, with the number of finished full-length original hacks there are (two according to this thread), finishing a hack would be impressive. ♪♫♩♬ |

Everything was better years ago. I agree there. My favourite part of ROM hacking is cracking the game open, discovering stuff, making tools, etc... May come from me being nothing but a programmer, heh. Either way, I think NSMB hacking is in dire need of new blood. This is one of the reasons behind the surprise. _________________________ Kuribo64 - zrghij |

Either way, I think NSMB hacking is in dire need of new blood. This. Reading this post made me feel like NSMB Hacking should be polished up a bit...making things user-friendly,make users feel like at home... I'm not saying that hacking NSMB is that hard...but simplyfing things isn't bad, right? Well, the good ol' days when nothing was discovered was good...but it's also amazing when things are discovered and people start to make great things...such as levels,ASM hacks and other things that maybe you already know. I mean I've passed a lot of ROM hacking era:from Super Mario World to New Super Mario Bros. Wii,from Super Mario 64 to Super Mario Galaxy 2 and I noticed that older games get more success than the newer ones... I mean I sometimes go on Super Mario World Central and I always can see about 10 users active...some of them are SM64 hackers and other of them SMW hackers... I kinda have the feeling that in the future,NSMB will have more success than nowdays. But this is just an opinion... |

Well, yeah. There's nostalgia, which is an important factor. But a more important one is how complex those games are. I doubt NSMB will ever reach the level of ASM hacking SMW knows nowadays. And don't get me started on the SMG games.

Happy birthday NSMHD! Time flies indeed. 3 years already, wow.
I know stuff is quite quiet lately. Personally, since. I started univ, i've been having muc less time to devote to NSMB hacking . I should ty to do more stuff and finish the damn Java port of the editor, lets see if that gets my motivation up Lol, the old Jul times. We were confined to a subforum, so we disallowed question threads. I guess that klled lots of activity back then. |

Posted by Dirbaio Happy birthday NSMHD! NSMHD? hmm... People doesn't look interested by the Java editor. Personally, I hope it will be quickly done. Edit: Posted by StapleButter Either way, expect the surprise to come out tonight. Probably at a time where standards dictate that I should be sleeping. Oh well. Looks like I will have to come late online. |
