Let's see what language is the favourite one! Probably the answer is obvious, but it's always good to see people's opinions.

Java all the way.

Also HTML5/CSS aren't programming languages.

Anyway, I choosed "Others", and that "Others" is "Perl". It's great programming language for scripts, really.

I've few concerns about this poll. jQuery isn't a language, it's just a framework ($ is perfectly fine identifier in JavaScript, and JavaScript has first-class functions (and functions can return objects). Also, there is no language called C / C++. And well, HTML5/CSS is definitely not a programming language. Also, .NET (well, CLR) is environment for multiple languages (officially, Microsoft supports C#, VB.NET and C++).

About jQuery and HTML5 / CSS, that's my fault. I thought that also counts as programming language... althought they're designed for doing webpages.
Also I know C / C++ isn't a language, I was speaking about both C and C++, cause C++ it's somewhat of an evolution of C(?)
and I put them togheter as one choice.
And the .NET thing was because  Dirbaio told me once "don't learn .NET languages" and I thought it was only one language. So, sorry, my fault.

I'm using PHP for WebApps, C# for Unity3D games, and C++ for any other type of game.
I did learn Java for a few weeks, but that was only to pass its Exam, but it has no further interest to me.
I've made an attempt to learn C, but it's so similar to C++, that I've suspended my attention on it, until I actually need it.
My attempt on learning Objective-C failed in 10 minutes, it's just boring like crap.

I know HTML without CSS, but neither of them are really considered Programming Languages, in my opinion.

NeverEndingGamer, Java isn't commonly used for actual games, actually.
I'm a girl too, if that makes this Thread more relevant to say it...

Yeah, sadly it isn't good for games for performance reasons. See Minecraft for example. It runs like shit. If it was C++ it would be so awesome.

Well, if you're making a simple game or you just want to make a quick prototype it, Java is quite nice. Especially if it's 2D. Java's 2D APIs are quite damn nice.

The only time I played Minecraft, I was like, "What the hell do I have to do here?", lol.
Java is a High-Level Programming Language, so you can't tweak the Hardware with it at all.
C++ is a Low-Level one, so you have access to the Hardware, which makes games run so much quicker/better.

Nah, that's not true, C++ is faster because it's a compiled language, not interpreted. You still don't have direct access to hardware, there's the OS and the drivers below you.

Also you don't like Minecraft??. It's an awesome game, how can you not like it.

I didn't say I don't like Minecraft.
What I said was, I don't know what I have to do.

Depends on the platform, actually. It'd be mostly true for Windows and Linux, although Linux tends to be more lenient regarding that.

But uh, when you program for the DS, your code pretty much runs on the bare metal. Yami's post would be true in this case.

To be saying something on topic, well... dunno what my favorite language is. I tend to use PHP for quick things and web development. For more advanced quick things, I use C# as it gets me started quick and with Intellisense I can code really fast.

I use Java for Whitehole for cross-platformness reasons (although Fiachra managed to get C# GLControl working right under Linux...), but only that. Netbeans' autocomplete is not nearly as good as VC#'s. It's slow and tends to get in the way. Although it can speed up development in a way: if I can write code fast enough, it doesn't have time to bother me

And then, what else do I use? ASM and C for DS development (see lolSnes and NSMB ASM hacks). I would use C++ but getting C++ code to correctly interact with ASM is tricky. Function name mangling gets in the way unless you put boilerplate all over.
