How can I get the unused volcano bg, fg and tileset to work together without glitching or even work at all individually?

You can always import it into another slot, but you won't get the falling lava rocks.

Then it will work. Except that the used volcano BG has animation. You could try disabling it with Some notes on background HDMA (Scrolling animations)

Well, glitchey volcano erupting stuff appeared ontop of the volcano, and the back bg was all chopped upped and misaligned.

I had that problem once. But I can't reproduce it. Just try to use the correct Top and Bottom BG ID.

The animation that shows up seems graphically fine. The only thing that is has messed up is the palette. You can see the animation has some bubbly lava.

Also they are unused falling rocks, which they are just grey, but dunno how to spawn them again.

I thought those falling rock appear if you forget to add the falling rocks/kab-omb sprite set.
