Wouldn't it be a good idea to bring back some activity, if we started working on a new Community Remix? And I don't mean continuing the old one - it's better left dead. I mean a new one - with development going step by step, so it can actually go somewhere. We'll join forces with the NSMBCentral Discord, and maybe we can even join forces with another board, like Kuribo64 (lots of users here have an account there too) or SMWC (we used to host level design contests (another good thing to bring back, like SMWC VLDC) together with them). This could cause the board (and the Discord alike) to get more activity. More activity increases the chance of formerly-guests registering and that could increase the activity even more. What's your opinion on this? Let the board know! Also, very festive subject for my 100th post! I'm a Koopa now! I'ma earn Mario infinite lives on the staircase! i think solo/small team hacks (which have a better track record regarding completion and tend to have a stronger identity than huge community projects) and writing guides and game documentation (which make modding the game more accessible) are more reliable methods of boosting scene activity. from what ive gleaned community remix was incredibly lofty and lacked focus, and died despite being conceptualized back when the scene was (to my understanding) newer and more active. additionally, participation in other community events (like level contests) has been limited; ive also seen people having trouble recruiting people to help with their own projects. the only successful community project im aware of is the 3 years of nsmbhd hack— which while ultimately greater than the sum of its parts, it doesnt seem to have much identity beyond "a nsmb hack made with community contributions", and had a more limited scope compared to community remix.
practically speaking, in regards to increasing community activity/publicity, the output doesnt seem worth the input. logistically speaking, i dont think enough people have the time or resources needed to work on it. |

A new community remix would be good if led properly. However, I reckon now might not yet be time for it, what with the reorganizing and wiki not being done yet.
(btw I got a new job so I'm focusing on that for a lil while) I'll say this: no matter how you go about it, whoever leads this project needs to be both experienced and highly involved in the project. Dirbaio was the former (relative to others at the time) but failed to be the latter. The leader is the anchor that keeps the project alive. |

The main problem with making a comunity project is that people dont end up making levels, we have tried holding level compititons on nsmb central but there really isnt an intrest in participating since most active nsmb hackers are to busy with their hacks.
