This is for anyone who wants to talk about anything about Cars. Projects, and stuff. Something I have been wanting to do for a long time. Anyways, I'll start by talking about my project.

Below is my 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. This has the 4.8L engine in it with the 460E transmission. LS, 4X4. Very basic. I will get into the details as this Tahoe isn't like any other, and it's very unique. Also, this is the very first vehicle I have ever owned, so that's also kind of cool.

So as you can see from the picture, there's a spotlight on the side of the cab. That is correct. This was a police vehicle in the Chicago Police Department. I don't know if Chevrolet made it for them, or if they custom ordered it. This tahoe has a VERY basic radio, which is not common. No console. No trim on the side. No emblems. The front seats are cloth, and the back seats are leather. The driver's side is very tore up from the items on the officer's belt.

Now, a little history of this vehicle. It has not ran since 2011. It was parked in their lot and sat for 2 years because the transmission was bad. It had just hit over 200,000 miles. In 2013, it was auctioned off, to a man who I call my stepdad, before he met and married my mother. When he got it, the lights came on but no crank whatsoever. His plan was to completely restore it to it's brand new condition. But, after taking the front end apart and lifting the cab off the frame, he met my mother. One thing led to another, and we moved an hour away, and he has a new job. He's a M.D. doctor by the way.

Anyway, the Tahoe hasn't been touched since 2014. Luckily, he recorded everything he did to it in case he needed to retrace his steps. Smart. So, how did I get my hands on it? Well...

Last week he went to go check on his old house, and I went with him. I knew about the Tahoe but not much. I looked at it and said, "when was the last time you touched it?" he replied "years". He stated that he had no time or money to do what he wanted with it, so I said I'd fix it. He willingly agreed, and told me to make my plan. He even showed me the rust, the wear, and the mold. Still asks "You know what you are getting into now, so are you SURE?" I said "Yes"

So now I have ownership of it. The cab is off the frame already so I'll take the transmission out and rebuild it first. Also, I'll replace the rear main oil seal while I have the chance, since it's been known to leak at this age. Next, I'll put it back together, and diagnose why the engine is not cranking at all. I'll replace everything in the interior due to mold infestation. The rust isn't a thing I am really worried about, but the driver side floor pan is rotted through so I'll have to fix that. It's also missing some A/C pieces (Because my mom had a 1999 Silverado and the Air wasn't working in it. My stepdad took A/C pieces from the Tahoe and put it on her truck since the pieces were interchangable.)

I'll also need a Theftlock Radio which is a upgraded version of the stock radio. I don't want anything aftermarket really. I am armed with film, a Haynes repair manual, tools, and an idiotic brain. I'm going to get this thing roadworthy in the next few months.

So, there's my project. Does anyone here have a cool car project they'd like to share? If so, you can post it here!

Well, I was looking to see if there was any other 2001 Tahoe police vehicles, then I stumbled on this old advertisement: http://www.2040-cars.com/Chevrolet/Tahoe/2001-chevy-tahoe-police-vehicle-inoperable--520225/

Get this. Same issues. Same interior. Everything. I am pretty sure this is the Tahoe that's in my stepdad's garage, before it got tore apart anyway. Even the same seller location. Wow, I cannot believe I found this.

EDIT: yep. That's her. VIN numbers are exactly the same. Wow what a find.
