If you put a battle star in Singleplayer, it doesn't load, is there a way to get them to load or do you need ASM

But why would you want to put a battle star in a singleplayer level?

To see what would happen if you collected one/ OR if ASM train was to come through you could use stars as a way for a SM64 type hack

Mario vs. Luigi loads a bunch of hardcoded stuff to get those stars and stuff to work.

You shouldn't really complain about that, it wasn't the developers' intention for the game to be hacked. They never used the Battle Stars in single-player mode nor had any intention to do so, apparently; hence such code to prevent it from being misused in a normal level was made, I think. I could not… |

And/or because it is just easier to hardcode than to make flexible code.
