has to be distributed in a billion different formats. Heh. Hopefully oncoming CFW projects will make that shit more uniform.

This is exactly why we don't allow 3DS ROM Distribution.
Instead, we distribute Files like SZS, BCSTM, etc. separately, or Zipped in one Folder, if it's a Full Hack (sorry, I don't have an example of this one yet).

The ideal way to distribute 3DS game hacks would be that, yeah. Assuming we get a Riivolution equivalent, that is.

So first, the bashfulness, (if that's even a word) and since my return here on NSMBHD end 2014, I've always found the community to get more... let's say negative.

It is very evident. If you were to search the most recent posts users have made here in NSMBHD, you would see moderate bashing. For example, Hamza has been told many negative things by harsh users. Other examples would be StapleButter making fun at aboood40091's username. Even I have seen myself bash people before.

C'mon guys. We're better than this.

Perhaps, I am looking in everything the pessimistic ideas, but I would just like to point that out, not to make fun, nor undermine in any way those users who have undermined others. Sure, not everyone is perfect, but we, as human beings, do we not have any compassion to others? If we don't, we don't deserve to be here, nor do we have the right to bash them. This is NOT some kind of playground where you pick on the youngest member, and abuse him, or her.

Please, do not be so harsh to those who have lower intelligence than you. Yes, it may be frustrating, but something I learned when I was around 16, or 17, was this exact topic. Someone once told me that I do not have the right to undermine those who have lower intelligence. I was told to “see the world through their eyes.” A sudden realization hit me : Young kids are not as smart as us. Their intelligence is inferior, and will not be able to comprehend what we may want to say. Think of this : Say you were 10 years old. Would you be able to understand what a professional programmer does to create a software? Of course not! That would be absurd, or you'd have to be a perfect human to understand it at such a young age! We must not set our expectations of a new user too high. This will cause many new users to leave the board much more quickly. To understand my point of view, you must do what I had to think, and realize : To think, and rationalize like a child. Hopefully, by then, you'd see my point of view.

If I happen to 'bash' someone as you put it, it's not gratuitous, keep it in mind.

abooooooooooooood4000091 is an idiot, and he's been found to steal other people's work, too.

Everyone has been an idiot once in their life, but there are those who are willing to learn and improve, and those who just want to be spoonfed or think they're perfect.

Perhaps people could improve if you act kind and constructive towards them in times of acting stupid. If you throw them under a bus it'll just make matters worse.

Idiots won't learn if all you do is shit all over them.

(Sorry for bumping)

Wow. I wish I'd seen this thread earlier.

Posted by MarioFanatic64
The only threads that survive more than a week before slowing to a glacial pace are the spammy ones which will last for months and spawn many clone threads, like that Ask thread plague a while back.

Just curious, but why are is everyone so... bashful around here? It's like most of the community just ignores any new activity.

I really recognize this. Exactly this. I remember making this thread, about my NSMB Hacking history. A few days after I posted it, I started thinking something wasn't right at my post. I'm talking about these lines:

Posted by KingYoshi
We're a small community, but a lucky consequence of that is that members get to know each other faster than if there would be over 1,000 active users. Because of this, we get to know about what kind of people they are, which encourages the social interaction on this board in a positive way. There are many people here who talk about ordinary non-NSMB stuff too each other; at people's profile comments and at the General forums. (I hope you guys know what I mean )

The NSMBHD community has been a great place in those good old days.. as it still is. It's a shame we lost ray and Freeze, but that doesn't mean there aren't other people here who could become great hackers like them. There'll always be people joining and leaving this board (like at all boards). As long as we have the (still active) founders of NSMBHD and there's still interest at NSMB DS Hacking, this board will continue existing and the possibilities of NSMB Hacking will keep extending.

Since december, I've been thinking about this part, and I came to the conclusion the things I'm saying there aren't correct. Or at least, not anymore. I've been thinking about the good old days of NSMBHD. The community was very different back then. We were small and more like a family. People used to help other people more often and threads used to survive longer than they do now. But what happened to that? Lots of new people joined NSMBHD, the interest in NSMB Hacking decreased, some really good hackers were banned or left the board. And nowadays, even some admins (*cough* Dirbaio) aren't online anymore often.

It should be possible to solve this. I mean, there's also still interest in SMW Hacking. Like StapleButter said:
Posted by StapleButter
Or we could look at why SMW hacking is still going in 2015 even though they have already done everything you can do to that game.

Again, sorry for bumping this thread, but I think this thread shouldn't end like this. I mean, we all know that this board (or at least NSMB Hacking) seems to be dieing slowly. Now we need to think of a solution.

I feel sort of like this with MKDS Hacking, seeing how most of the other MKDS hackers have moved on to MK7 hacks, hell, it seems like most people just kind of stay away from DS Hacking in general, I know I did a couple of years back. But it also seems more like NSMB Hacking is in decline due to lack of motivation, rather than just people ignoring it.

As someone who tried to hack the DS Pokemon Games, I agree that it seems like the DS isn't optimal for hacking, considering how intuitive hacking the GBA games were.

The GBA Pokemon Games and SMW have Advance Map and Lunar Magic respectively, and what those two tools have in common is that a lot people could pick it up, and hack it, even if you could only do simple things at that level of skill. I believe that this is what attracts people to those scenes.

SNES/GBA - Emulators require little-to-no setup to run, official editors very simple.

NDS - Emulators need optimal settings, and can lag for lower-end computers. NSMBe requires learning to use.*

tl;dr: I think that the entry level, is also a major factor in the success of a scene.

Also, people are probably attracted to SMW because of nostalgia, and we don't have control over that.

*I'm NOT saying that it's counter-intuitive

It's funny to see that it seems like there wasn't much new activity on the board until I posted something in this thread. There's been more activity in the past few days than before.

Anyway, I think we should make a plan to get back the interest in NSMBDS Hacking, before it falls into oblivion. I may have some ideas:

1.) I don't think people like Sharks or Freeze will return to NSMBHD, so maybe we can better focus on new people. One thing we could do is making the 'Download NSMBe' page more extensive. With that, I mean something more like this. If we'd had a screenshot of an edited NSMB level, opened in NSMBe (like we used to have) and a list with some features of NSMBe, new people would get a better representation about NSMBe and NSMB Hacking.

2.) NSMBHD has got a Facebook page, but it's kinda dead. However we could use this to get more people into NSMB Hacking. I know some people here don't like social media at all, but yeah.. Facebook is something a lot of people use nowadays. It's very useful if we want more interest in NSMB Hacking. We could post something when there's a new build of NSMBe (with a list of the new features of course) and when a full NSMB Hack is finished and published. And stuff like the threads in the 'Latest News' forum. (If no-one's willing to update the Facebook page, I may could do that. Although I don't own that page, so I'm not able to do it.)

3.) Some things like Music Hacking, NSBMD Hacking and (especially) ASM Hacking are still hard to many people here. Maybe there should be tutorials for this which are more.. noob-friendly.

Another thing:
There hasn't been a new NSMBe build for a very long time. There are some NSMBe suggestions which are implemented already, but aren't in the latest build. There are also quite a lot suggestions in the main Development forum which aren't implemented (or rejected) yet. I don't know why this it...(?)

ahem

well that's Sharks, dunno about Freeze (considering his buddy ray isn't coming back, well)

nowadays, Super Mario Maker makes it easy and official, so deh

as far as NSMBDS is concerned, we already know how to do all the things your average joe would be willing to try: editing levels, maybe tilesets...

worldmaps require modelling skills (and using illegal tools)

music is a pain (and requires musical skill)

multiplayer hacking would be a complete and total pain, which is why that path is never travelled

ASM hacking requires skills in that domain, which are rare

Well, you don't need to extract the sound_data.sdat anymore, since you can import SSEQs, SWARs and SBNKs using Gericom's DS Sound Studio. (Unfortunately he didn't make it open-source. Otherwise we could make an Export option too, so that we also wouldn't need VGMTrans anymore.)

For SSEQs, Gericom's MKDS Course Modifier (latest version) can export them.
Not sure about SBNKs and SWARs, through. (BTW, SWAVs inside SWARs can be exported as WAVs using the app I mentioned)

(BTW: The IRC Link above the sarcastic title of "DO NOT CLICK HERE!" does not work. Put the link back up)

I've noticed the IRC is... pretty lame to put it.

I wait for something to happen but it never happens. I go to SMBX's IRC chat and they talk a lot. It is not the most important for NSMBHD, but I feel like we need to chat a bit more in there.

I also think we need a New NSMB Editor Update too. That hasn't even gotten updated in 2 years now and you think the developers would make 1 update.

There are pretty substantial updates on github, it'd just need to be compiled, and the autobuild system seems dead;
Here's the lastest rev, compiled: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4558852/r379.rar
