I want to get an idea of how much time this is taking you guys to make. I keep hearing that deadlines should be longer than 2 weeks, but I don't think it takes 2 weeks to make one level.

For me it usually takes 10-15 hours. But the problem usually isn't how long it takes to make the level, rather how much free time I have. With school in session now I have much less time to spend on things like this.

So the problem with the contests is that there isn't enough time?
What do you all think would make the contests better so that we get more people making levels for them? |

I am just saying my opinion. If you don't agree with me, it's OK:
-People actually have enough time for Level Design contests. The most people say, they dont have enough time, but they actually HAVE enough time. I dunno, why many are saying they don't have enough time, because of school. The contest duration is long enough. So you guys can learn for school and ALSO make a contest level. And only SOMETIMES the excuse "I have got no time!" is acceptable. -People, that arent making contest levels are lazy. Yeah, I am also a lazy ass, but I "try" to join the contsts every time. But after one second of making a level I loose my NSMB-Hacking-mood immediately. Many people don't even try to join contests. -If they say anything else, its just a lie. It's true, believe me. And dont think, I am saying this to others. This also incluedes myself. I am lazy and dont play many contests, like you can see. |

I really agree with lui1000 (NsmB_PrO) but I think that there should be more time because even though we already have time to do things like this we wish to spend some of that time on hobbies other than NSMB hacking. eg: coding, playing minecraft, extra random things.
I think that if there were a little more time there might be more people involved but I can not be sure. How about we trial this in the next competition, let the deadline be a week more but early entrants get something special (5 points extra maybe). EDIT: Three day's for critiques. I think that that should be raised. Semi-off-topic: Can we host our own competitions? |

Posted by coolas1 Semi-off-topic: Can we host our own competitions? Of course! You see Garmichael posting all the contests here, because he's just known for doing so, and he wants to. You're free to post anywhere, and do whatever you want (as long as it's not stupid, and other should-not-do things) on NSMBHD. |

I get the impression that most people don't even start doing their levels until the last minute, so I don't think adding time would help that much.
I don't see why three days for critiques isn't enough. It only takes about an hour. Maybe it should be 3 weeks for a level, 1 week for critiques. I was also thinking of doing something like this: Days 0 - 7: Make Area 1 of a level Days 8-10: Critiques of Area 1 Days 11-18: Make Area 2 of your level and fixing the stuff people talked about in your area 1. Days 19-21: Critiques of Area 2 Days 21-28: Make Area 3 of your level and fixing the stuff people talked aobut in your area 2. Days 29-31: Final Critiques Score = Average of all three rounds of critiques. But no one seems to like doing the critiques at all. Yes, you can do your own contest if you want. That's why I put "Garmichael's Level Design Contest" in the title, so anyone could do their own. But if people aren't even getting around to doing these ones, then good luck. |

That time line idea looks good!
I really think that doing it in parts is a very good idea. |
