You may have heard the news that has developed over the last few hours. On July 11th, Nintendo CEO and revered game director Satoru Iwata passed away. His untimely death was due to a bile duct growth, which was the cause of Iwata's health concerns leading to him being forced to skip E3 for the last two years. He died aged 55, and presided over Nintendo for 13 years following the lead of the late Hiroshi Yamauchi.

Satoru Iwata
1959-2015

As a tribute to Mr. Iwata, I'd like to say a few words. Today marks a day when the gaming industry loses one of its brightest stars. Mr. Iwata led Nintendo through tough times and prosperous times but his influence on the gaming industry, extending to millions of people around the world, was exemplary. His death may have been sudden and unexpected, but we can't just say goodbye to him by simply providing hollow empty words. Today is a day where the gaming world must stop to honor Mr. Iwata. Today is a day where we put our controllers down and turn our consoles off out of respect for the fallen legend. Today, we remember and honor Mr. Iwata. Tomorrow is a new day, and the beginning of a new chapter for all of us.

What's in the future is uncertain, but at least now Mr. Iwata may rest in peace.

My day could not be any worse than hearing that. Waking up, checking Skype notifications to have this on the SMS Events chat.

You are a hero among men, Mr. Iwata.

May your soul rest in peace for all the good things you gave us.

Can someone give me a hug so I can stop crying?

I still can't believe it. When I read the news, I thought I misread wrong, but no, it was true.

Really sad to hear him go.

But he will always be alive, in the hearts and minds of all the people who played the games he was involved (Balloon Fight, EarthBound, and more...)

Some of the achievements I know he did as a programmer where:

-Code all of EarthBound by himself.
-Develop a way to Compress the Johto Region in Gold and Silver so GameFrak could add the Kanto region.
-Ported the entire Pokemon Stadium battle program to the N64 without any document for reference.
-And more (Made it so Melee came out in time, etc.)

R.I.P Satoru Iwata.

I knew it that this day is going to happen because i had this dream last year. Rest in Peace Iwata-san. This is a sad day for Nintendo, but what happened next? Who's going to be the new CEO for Nintendo of Japan? Who will replace Iwata-san in the future Nintendo Direct's? Will the NX ever be released? We don't know the answer yet. I will play Kirby 64 as a tribute of him.

It's likely that either Genyo Takeda or Shigeru Miyamoto will succeed Mr. Iwata, as Nintendo's two remaining Representative Directors. As for Nintendo's future, I think business will proceed as usual.

It's always the fanart that are tearjerker.

Its great seeing things like sony or Phil Spencer pay tribute to Iwata.

I wish for him to rest in peace, and for him believe what I usually don't, that being something after life.

He is gone from earth, but his Golden Triangle, (Shigeru Miyamoto, Toshihiko Nakago and Takashi Tezuka) will continue thier job and still provide great game as they do now. The moral of Nintendo may go down a lot, but they have to keep up the business not to fall down.

As MF64 said, it won't affect the business, but give Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda a lot of work until the successor of is annouced.

Satoru Iwata is the one who gave a new breath to Nintendo, and also the one who is the origin of the DS and Wii's success.
