Try searching a bit in other people levels too...
Ever heard of the "ZONES" thingy? It allows to trigger things like the tile destroyers.
And as far as I remember, there's a Delay setting in the tile destroyer sprite itself (But I might be wrong.)

There isn't a delay settings as far as I can remember. But you can use "AND" or one of the chainers to add a delay.

Well that's easy, as I said, use a zone (that you can create just like Areas) to trigger the lava.
...There is also an Event Activator (?) sprite to put, but once again I haven't touched the editor since some time now. Then you just have to set up by how many tiles the lava will rise and its speed in its sprite.

Use and "IF" sprite that watches a zone for Mario to enter it. Make the IF sprite trigger a flag (for example: flag 1). Set the lava to rise when flag 1 is triggered.


Note: Flags are also called events.

Zone -> If mario in zone -> trigger event 1

AND controller trigger on event 1 -> delay x -> activate event 2

Lava triggers on event 2.
