Doesn't actually do anything.

The rule about bumping threads is different than how it's actually enforced. It says:

Don't bump old threads.

Posting in threads older than one month is considered "bumping". Posting in a question thread that's already been answered is bumping too. An exception to this rule is if you are reviving an old thread you created.

As written, posting in the vast majority of threads, including the super popular Featherland threads and every thread in the NSMB hacks forum, is considered bumping.

This rule should be changed to "posting in threads that haven't been posted in for at least a month", which seems to be how the rule is currently enforced.

I'll grant you that this is not quite clear, but we often consider a thread's age to be how long ago the last post was made.

We're not discussing about how long it should be. Just about how the rule is phrased in the FAQ.

Well they always say bumping is OK if you have good content to bring to the thread. But yeah. The bumping rules should be made more clear.

I have reworded the rule a bit, to deal with the ambiguity and to take into account the "common sense" thing:

Don't bump old threads.

"Bumping" means posting in threads that haven't had any new posts for a while without adding anything meaningful to the conversation. As a general rule, don't post in threads that have been dead for one month. There can be exceptions, such as a thread you made, or a thread about a specific topic that has been alive for long, or if you're posting something really important specific to that topic. Just use common sense and think whether it makes more sense to create a new thread for your post instead.

Yes, common sense!

I wish some people weren't lacking it!

Closing this as we don't need it anymore.
