Hi all! I discovered this site today and I'm excited to try out some of the NSMB hacks. However I feeling a little overwhelmed by the site design and not sure which hacks I should download and try. It looks like many of them are incomplete. The downloads section doesn't have any ratings or anything, so I don't really know which are the "must play" hacks.

Could anyone suggest maybe a "Top 5" list of the best hacks I should try out? Preferably ones that are complete or mostly complete (With at least 2 or 3 complete worlds or more)

Thanks!

You could look into the two hacks by ray and Freeze... and otherwise, look into threads and try whatever hacks look good to you

And do not try NSMB3 if you ever find it, it's a piece of shit.

Maybe try my hack?

JK, you can try it if you want. But there are some other hacks around. There's what Mega-Mario talked about, there's Clone Tag Team and Clone Tag Team 2, which both uses clones in some levels.

There's also NSMBDeluxe by Gridatttack.

And again, there's my hack. If you ever download it, next update will be this summer, so maybe you'd rather wait if you want two complete worlds.

(Seriously, who would never suggest their hack? )

Super Mario: The Secret Worlds is a good hack too IMO.

Try out these:

Also, if you like hardcore challenges, you should try out NSMB3.

Here is a list of complete NSMB hacks. There are also some incomplete hacks listed, but that list might not be up to date.

Thanks for the info everyone! That site is pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

So what's up with New Super Mario Bros 3? One person says it sucks and one person suggests it. I looked up a video of it and it looks awesome. I'm always on the lookout for challenging platformers, so I probably won't be put off by the difficulty. I used to play some of those those insanely hard smb1 hacks, so..... I'm definitely gonna try all the complete ones! Thanks again

You haven't seen much of NSMB3 have you? The level design is terrible. And its author is an ego-inflated fucktard. He once tried to get donations from his hack, and begged for donations at GBAtemp...

And yeah, it's a remake. And the few added bonus are really hard. And sometimes bad. I once almost go stuck in one of his damn bonuses.

Also, I think his hack is pre-installed on some flashcarts.

Thanks again for the recommends! My favorite so far is "New Super Mario Bros. 5: Clone Tag Team"... It's bizarre, but challenging in a humorous way. My favorite thing that has happened so far is I got the giant mushroom with regular Mario. He unwittingly stepped on clone mario, and I hear the death music... LOL

I watched a bit of a Let's Play of NSMB3. Problems in the hack (non-exhaustive) include massive difficulty spikes, event activator abuse, traps, and this.

However, there isn't as much of a problem with NSMB3 as there is with the creator SKJmin, and from what I can tell (his ban preceded me), his incredibly arrogant attitude. Apparently, telling people to never play the hack is our way of keeping the grudge strong.

And there you go, everything you ever need to know about the hack ever.

I should mention that almost all of these are also true about New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. Perhaps you should be a bit more specific.

The thing is, my intention isnt intended to make the player get stuck
I just overlooked stuff, but they will be fixed in the next revision.

Thought I admit I messed on the difficult of world 1 custom areas.

Well, I just added most of the unfinished hacks here to the "upcoming" section, though I should probably clean out the dead ones.
New Super Mario Bros.: Clone Tag Team 1+2 / New Super Mario Advance + Take 2 / Super Mario: Endless Earth
My two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart.

Ah, understood. Well I haven't applied the patch yet. After seeing that pipe maze, I have no interest in trying it out. Thanks for the info!

Yeah the site is very useful from a player standpoint as well! Thanks! I'm really enjoying your hacks, even NSMB2 isn't bad. Sure, some of the level design is a little bit plain, but given that it's in the NSMB game engine, it's still more fun to play than most other games

I'm such a 2d platforming freak, I tried to play "Henry Hatsworth and the puzzling adventure", without going into Puzzle mode at all. Interestingly, it is totally possible to do that. But the game ended up being boring, mostly just hacking and slashing monsters. And no "run" button.. The physics are totally wack

Slightly off topic, have you guys seen http://stabyourself.net/mari0/ ?
This thing is insane! A faithful SMB1 remake with Portal guns.
