So, are we going to put the good Contest Levels in the Community Hack? If so, we should use the tilesets from there, shouldn't we? Otherwise we can use every tileset.

That's a good idea, Freeze. Because I'm a lazy mafk, can someone link me to the list of tilesets you're already using?

Oh that's right! I forgot about the Sky Ruins idea.

When Dir finishes up the tileset, I'll link to it in the contest thread when it's time.

I may modify it though, to include some cloud platforms... I don't want to screw with the tileset list so we'll see..

My challenge idea is: A scrolling level using the Sky Ruins tile set.

There are already Soft-Cloud-Platforms as sprite.
Probably you can use those instead of modifying the tileset.

Do we have to critique everyone's levels in this round?
Because there are more than ten participants this round.

I think we first have to wait how many entries there are. Because when there are so much participants, there are probably some users who can't finish their level because of school, work or other things.
I'm sorry if this is a bad idea.

Garmichael said some time ago that we probably just have to give points. We won't have to do the critiques anymore.
But we never decided, if we do it like that.
Sooo?

Since so many people are making levels, it would be okay if critiques were very short. You have to give points, and give at least ONE sentence for each of the three categories for each level. Not too bad, right?

That sounds good!
I will critique every level inside spoilers, to avoid a huge mess.

Ok now, is there still the original "Ruins in the sky" contest? I am really confused.

Because I saw the other contests in this thread.

Those are old contest. The current one is the ruins in the sky. Check the dates of the posts.

This last contest had a lot of unfair and unthoughtful critiquing, and some of it was suspiciously weighted to look like it gave an advantage to one player over another regardless of the level quality.

The purpose of critiques is to give the other players constructive criticism about their levels, so that they can take it into account in their overall level design. I understand that critiques could not be as detailed as they were for other contests because of there being so many levels, but that's not a valid excuse for the way scores were handed out. I could give specific examples but I don't want to drag that out.

A new form of figuring out who should win needs to be made. I chose Top 3 in this contest because I was fed up with the obvious deception going on. I talked about it on IRC and came up with this:

You choose Top 3 in each of the following categories:

Design, Polish, and Flair.

Design: How well the does the level PLAY. How much fun is it? Is it too hard? Are there parts that stick out in your mind after you are done playing it? Was it confusing to find the end? Was it clear where you can go and can't go? Are there blind jumps? Are there unfair traps?

Polish: Does it WORK and does it look PROFESSIONAL? Are the right tiles chosen? Does the flag pole tracker work? Do all the entrances work? Does the camera panning work right? Does the camera jump around? Are there any other glitches?

Flair: How CREATIVE is it? How much personality and atmosphere does the level have? Are the areas pleasing to look at with interesting props from the tileset? Is there nice variety in tiles used?

Each #1 gets 3 points, each #2 gets 2 points, and each #1 gets 1 point.

The final winner is chosen by who has the most total points from all three categories, and then each category has a winner for the most points in that category.

How does that sound?
