I hacked SMW for a while a long time ago, and came across Jul (God knows how). After a bit of this and that I went to the NSMB section and caught on.

Not much to say.

I came to Jul I really dont remember how.

I first found this and downloaded the crappy 2.1 editor. Somehow I googled and followed links and ended up in Jul and realized there was a much newer version of NSMBe, at that time 4.7. I made my first level with that: this.

I quickly got involved in developing NSMBe since I knew a bit of C# and Treeki was beginning to loose interest in developing it. He opensourced it and created the Google Code project page. And here we are now, 2 years later and 230 revisions more

Ohh... WOW. I never thought that this (sorry) shitty level was yours xD And two years are a long time. For two years I started my first custom level. (It looked crappy ) Then I made a 3/4 year pause and looked again trough the internet. And then I found 5.0 230 revisions are much.. I can remember where r121 was a fascination The good old golden times

We all have crappy first levels. But we improve. That's called learning.

Let me guess. You didn't know what that button that said "tileset 1" was used for?

Hmm... Yes you can say it like this, but I knew that there are the tileset objects. I was too lazy to build something with the Tileset, because building with the normal objects is WAY faster xD

I really don't remember how I got to NSMB hacking. I think I saw the same page that dirbaio linked. Then I discovered the 4.7 editor somewhere (not at Jul). Then I was browsing youtube to see NSMB custom related stuff and came across one of Mariomadproductions (Hiccup) showing the pipe smashing sprite. I remember I commented on some unused sprites I found and then he gave a link to JUL, which I registered there, about the same time as dirbaio.

I remember my first level, very similar to the original 1-1...

I first started using it at NSMBe2, because I was looking for a tool to help me make these. Sadly I was disappointed as NSMBe2 was extremely underdeveloped. I later found NSMBe4 and completed the sprite list for it. I started developing for it sometime during NSMBe5 and made the maps you see at that link.

Hey, I see my Vs Battle star in those images That's so cool.

A few years back (>= 10 years), I saw NSMB, and said "wow, that looks so cool!". I played it on my friend's DS, and thought it was an awesome game. Then, being the great researcher I was at the time, I came across a Youtube video, by Treeki, showing a custom level made in NSMBe 4.x. I downloaded it from Jul, and tried it out. At that time, I had a DS with a flashcart, so I was able to play around with it and download it to my flashcart (it was originally an n5). But, I was so confused. Objects/sprites had no images at the time, and the editor was just too complicated for such a young brain. I could only make very simplistic things. So I gave up on NSMBe.

Much later, I came across NSMBe 5.1, and was amazed how much better it was compared to the old 4.x. I played around with it for a while, and then dropped it once again, which I can't remember the reason for.

Then recently, I came back, and here I am.

I hate to disappoint you, but those maps were made back in 2010, so that was some random star image I found on the internet.

And you should try NSMBe1. No graphics whatsoever. Only support for objects and sprites. Objects can't even be dragged, you have to enter the X and Y coordinates manually. Yea, NSMBe has progressed A LOT.

Oh whatever Doesn't matter.

And, NSMBe1 only supporting manually typing in the coordinates doesn't really surprise me. Software always starts simple.

I came to NSMB Hacking the completely same way, as Dirbaio. I saw the creepy NSMBe2 and made 3 REALLY nice (completely shit) levels.
Later I saw the NSMBe4. I started MvsL Hacking a while (no object/sprite adding supported) and then I started with YSMB. I never really left NSMB-Hacking. And now I am here.

PS: I was 12 when I started.

I came to NSMB hacking because ELMario made me check out this site. That's when I really got into it.

I don't remember how I started... It was some time in 09, though, even before NSMB has its own forum on JUL. Here's a link to my first post. I feel like I deserve the claim of having made one of the first nonshitty levels with Treeki's editor.

LOL. Treeki posted to you this:

Two decent custom levels for NSMB - are pigs flying? Most of the levels I see are pretty terrible.

I think, this has changed, since we have the "new" Editor.

EDIT: Sorry, my post is a link. I cant do anything... I think Garmichaels post has the fault.

About mid-2009 i found a video on youtube of the first test level. the description had a link to the editor, NSMBe4.7, and I tried it out, to be perfectly honest i was surprised it even worked. prior to my NSMB hacking i had thought that it would be impossible to modify such a game. It all seems so simple now.
