A locking Thing with a password would be cool.
So people can't steal other people's hacks Also, it will be better when the password dight is unlimited. |

There's another way... The "legendary Rom lock" xD But you have to do it with ASM hacking

Since we can't trade the actual rom, would this still be possible? To lock a level so it can be imported, but not opened?

It means that a locked rom can't be modified.
But it only locks the levels or texture files and to open it, you need to enter a password |

Yeah.
But the only way to do it would be to add a weak editor-side protection, since the game should still be able to read the levels without the password. And since the editor is opensource, it'd be easy as hell to recompile it without the password checking, so it'd be unsafe. The good way of locking ROM's is to actually screw up the file tables so that the game still can read them, but not any NDS editors out there. But yeah, that requires ASM hacking. |

True. Fixed it.
Anyways, I don't think I'll implement this into the editor itself. Maybe a tutorial on how to do it with ASM hacking, but I'm not sure either... |

There's no way to implement a fully secure level locking system. If you use a password, as you said, the editor can be recompiled without the password check, and boom. And even if you encrypt the level data with something like RSA, the game needs to be able to decrypt the data. So the decryption key could be found within the ROM.
If I were you, I wouldn't bother with such 'security'... basically, as soon as you make some kind of software security, there will always be a hacker cracking it. _________________________ Kuribo64 - zrghij |

Maybe the best thing we can do is keep our eyes open. If someone is stealing someone's level or hack, call them out.
Similar to when that guy tried to steal NSMB_Pro and Ray's hack. In this instance, I think name calling, slander, spite, malice, and whatever else needed to protect each other's hacks from thieves is all good. But seriously, if anyone spots something stolen, by all means, make it known who it belongs to. |
