I've been seeing a lot lately that Mario games are becoming too common. There's been at least 1 Mario platformer released every year since 2009. And there's been a lot of talk that Mario's becoming an overkill, which means that people are going to stop buying them. Which is bad news for Mario fans like us, because the series will begin to die.

So I had to give my opinion somewhere...

Ever since the DS, Nintendo have been only hoping to have 1 3D Mario and 1 2D Mario per console, so:

In 2004, Super Mario 64 DS was released as the DS's only 3D Mario platformer (A REMAKE, BY THE WAY).
Then in 2006, New Super Mario Bros. was released as the DS's only 2D Mario platformer. (ONLY ORIGINAL ONE, BY THE WAY)

So then it was the Wii's turn:

In 2007, Super Mario Galaxy was released as the Wii's 3D Mario.
In 2009, New Super Mario Bros. Wii was released as the Wii's 2D Mario.
In 2010, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was only released to substitute for all of the extra content cut from SMG1.

And now, Nintendo have moved on to their next generation.

In 2011, Super Mario 3D Land was released as the 3DS's 3D Mario.
In 2012, New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be released as the 3DS's 2D Mario.

And with Nintendo's recent announcements that a 2D Mario for Wii U will be announced at E3, so begins the Wii U's Mario games.

So once the Wii U has been given it's 3D and 2D Mario game. The main series will rest for another 3 or 4 years.

Unless we get another unprecedented Mario like SMG2.

I'm glad that people will see eventually see that and stop dissin' our Good Ol' Stache Man.
New Super Mario Bros.: Clone Tag Team 1+2 / New Super Mario Advance + Take 2 / Super Mario: Endless Earth

NO! Nintendo, please do your best to make your game franchise last long! Don't be despaired by those people!
I love them very much, Mario, Kirby, Zelda, as well as other series.

Your post make me think of it. I never realize about one 3D and 2D Mario per console. <_<

I don't think Mario games will die out. Never.
There are too much fans.
