Pretty much I want to have some cheat codes available on my Wii, such as playing as luigi in 1 player NSMBWii etc.

Anyways, I think Gecko OS looks kind of sketchy because it "allows the running of import games " and " cheat codes "

Does this mean you download games to your wii ( IOS )? I dont want to download Wii games or anything just to apply some cheat codes from time to time and maybe download an emulator in the future.

I was wondering if someone could explain how Gecko OS works because http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Gecko_OS is kind of useless info.

And one more question, for the Riivolution it says it applys patches to the games. Are these permanent? I dont want to apply a patch and end up not liking it and not being able to undo it. Because i have the actually retail game not roms. I want to apply textures like the toad one in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBuk6NidyX0 and having the ability to undo it at any time.

I have been online for an hour and im having no luck finding out information about them and i dont want to install these without knowing what they are , so if someone could explain these two and how they work etc that would be great

thanks

( BTW I installed The Homebrew Channel so im ready to install stuff and sorry for all the questions recently i just dont want to end up bricking my wii )

If you want to use Gecko OS, then you make a folder on the root on your SD Card and you name it 'codes'. A good site for codes is http://geckocodes.org/

Then you have to download codemanager from here: http://wiird.l0nk.org/ocarina.zip
Open Codemanager in the PC folder.

In the gameID field, you type the 6 digits long code. Which can be found after the game name on geckocodes.org There is always 1 thing the same: The 4 digit: If you are Europe, search for a 'P' on the 4 digit. If you are American, search for a 'E' on the 4 digit. (It might be otherwise )

The game name is optional.

Click on 'add a code/comment/category' and name the code whatever you want

In the field 'Code Contents,' type the code you want to use.
Click on store modifications.
Click on OK
Click on Export to GCT
Then set the gct to the codes folder on your SD Card.
Then start up Gecko and it should work

For Riivolution.

Download Riivolution here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Riivolution

Place the whole Riivolution folder in the 'apps' folder on your SD Card. If you don't have one, make one.

Now you have to make a 'riivolution' folder on the root on your SD Card. You can use mine if you want: http://www.mediafire.com/?x1dj21xcp9ckkrc

Place the whole folder on the root on your SD Card (The folder that I posted works for New Super Mario Bros. and Super Smash Bros Brawl)

Then create another folder on the root: for New Super Mario Bros Wii. Create a folder named 'nsmb' For Super Smash Bros Brawl: Create a folder named 'ssbb'

Place the hacked file in the right folder (nsmb or ssbb)

Then open up Riivolution via homebrew channel and it should work

Hope I helped

Also, to actually reply to one of your questions:

Riivolution doesn't permanently make patches to games. In fact it's completely impossible to do it, the game disc is read-only, the Wii can't modify it at all. So if you load your game through the disc channel you'll get to play the original game, always.

I think you would want Action Replay Wii,look it up on Wal-Mart or something.Action Replay Wii may be what your looking for.You can put codes "on" or "off" & you can also put codes on your PC.

But you can get cheat codes for free without buying addditional hardware, using most game launchers. Dunno how ARWii works but I once got cheats to work on original games using Gecko OS

The way I use cheat codes is with the Homebrew Browser downloaded into the app folder, running the Homebrew Browser from the HB Channel, downloading Gecko OS and Accio Hacks with it.

Then open Accio Hacks and navigate until you find the right version of the game.
then choose which codes you want to switch on, save the file.
and then open gecko os and click start with codes enabled.

There might be a way to do this without opening two apps.
But this works without using a PC.
It does not modify the game.

I never found out why Homebrew never installed in my Wii...Anyways,Action Replay Wii kinda makes the coding easier from what I learned from it,you can install it like installing homebrew but the difference is that Action Replay Wii installs only with the special SD Card & your wii must be 4.3 or higher.
