I ran firmwire.nds (http://nsmbhd.net/get.php?id=155) on a DS lite, then took it out (it did not freeze) and opened ds download play.

Then I ran the hacked NSMB (E) rom on a DSi
and chose Mario VS Lugi, send to someone who does not have NSMB

Download play on the DS lite picked it up and gets past the nintendo logo but freezes after the animation has played for a few seconds.

(if I use the default v5 firmwire loaded on ds lite start-up to download it - it freezes at the nintendo logo after downloading the software)

I don't think the level causes the freeze because I tried it with Multi-card play with the hacked NSMB and a real NSMB card and it did not crash. The level was just out of sync.

What am I doing wrong?
or is there another way to play edited levels with one flashcard?
Maybe by using a nds image of a flashed firmwire (if the one linked above isn't flashed)

It should work with firmware.nds...
If it doesn't work with it, flashing FlashMe for real won't work either...

You mean it freezes after a while of the "downloading" animation where Peach throws mushrooms at Mario?
I don't know what could be wrong ...

Try entering the code to show the debug menu (Though I don't think it'll show up)
L+R+Left+A, let it go.
Down + B, let it go.
Start+Select.

I have that problem too. Try extracting the level and then import it into a clean rom with r116 and then click the two narc buttons. r116 seems to work for some people, depends on flashcard I think.

No. r116 contains a CRAP FIX that "fixes" download play BUT will make the rom break in certain cards. So maybe it works for you, but it will NOT work for everyone

It used to work great but then I updated my flashcard now it doesnt work . Anyways im sure in the future the final revision of 5.2 will have MvsL editing for single card, or some kind of revision will.

Nope

It's NOT possible to get edited ROMs to work on all flashcards AND over Download Play. It's one thing or another.

It's about a field in the header that specifies the total used ROM size.
If the editor updates it when replacing files, DLP breaks. (This is what most revs do)
If not, the ROM stops working on some flashcards. (This is what r116 does)

I think having the ROM work on all cards is more important than DLP. That's why NSMBe *does* update the header.

Also, if you're using firmware.nds / flashme and it doesn't work, using r116 won't fix anything.

Weird the way DLP only works with some flashcards. Because when it does work firmware.nds isnt even required.

Anyways Hiccup's flashcard might work with it.

I personally like Supercards the best. They seem to have the most features in the OS as well as hardware (eg, firmware flashing) and are also the most reliable cards too.
They could run firmware.nds I bet.

Yes the peach animation

the debug menu showed up. (on ds lite (the one downloading) )

maybe its because I took the card out?
maybe others who suceeded at using firmwire nds were using two carts?
It might be because they were using a U rom?

It might be important that I was using an acekard2i with akaio software and the latest firmwire update to work on the dsi and 3ds

Menu showed up?
Then post a pic, of both screens!

I don't think we can get any useful info outta it but, who knows.

Don't know if it's related to the card, but you should be able to boot firmware.nds, then take the card out. I've done it, and it works.

Here are the pictures:

all the characters are visible

When it worked for you did you use an E rom?
are you sure the firmwire.nds was the one that is on the uploader?
and what menu software did you use?

I am going to try importing the edited level into a U rom and try the same method with that.

What other ways are there of running firmwire.nds (as an alternative to running it from the akaio menu)

Huh, I'm not sure, there's no useful info in the debug screen.

How you run firmware.nds doesn't matter. As long as it boots, it's fine.

I think I have got it working using E roms, but you might try as well the U rom.

Well it might patch it in some way.

I will post when I have tried the U rom.

The kernel/menu patching firmware.nds?
I don't think so
It's a weird non-standard ROM.

I ran firmware.nds with HBmenu and no difference, (so it isn't patching it)

and I ran the U version and no differance. (so it is not the region)

Could you give me a link to me all the files you used to make it work? (nsmb patch, firmware, files, ect) including kernel menu and I will see if it works.

Here is a patch and nml of the MvsL Hack: (edited level is SMB 1-1) (E rom)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bn7apwivtjzdjia/MvsL%20Hack%20Patch%20Freeze.zip
could you see if anything is wrong with the level or patched rom/does they work for you and try importing it to a mvsl hack that worked for you?

Edit: I tried the New Super Fusion Bros. Hack which has MvsL edited levels.
and the same crashing at the peach throwing mushrooms animation.

Bumping the thread will not make progress happen faster. In fact it'll slow progress down because we waste our time reading your 'bump' posts.

If I were you, I'd forget about DLP, or any form of multiplayer hacking. Not because of that signature, but because of the limited resources available in multiplayer levels. The game will only send/load the tilesets and objects it needs, and that must be hardcoded, as always. Anything hardcoded is a pain to edit because 1) you have to find offsets for each and every ROM version you want to support and 2) if you want to expand the data, you have a 95% chance of breaking the game because the data is scattered among more data and code.

Try YSMenu with the NSMB ROM (not firmware.nds). I can give you my directory full of the stuff but I can't tell you how to set it up/what state it is in because I forgot and never took notes.
