They already said they were done with "New" super mario bros. games after U Deluxe, and they clarified that there would be more 2d mario games in the future.
ah lmao. surprised it took as long as it did, but its something. Just realized Super Mario World and Super Mario Wonder can both be shortened to SMW, nintendo secretly remaking Super Mario World without telling us confirmed

Its been named Super mario Bros. wonder at least, but still SMBW and SMW are only a letter apart and are going to get confused. They should of thought of that and some other specific things *cough* elephant suit *cough*

Ye still lmao. SMBW and SMW aren't far apart so the average person probably will get them confused when said like that.

It’s been forever since I talked about this, but I’m gonna give a little better opinion on what I did get out of the bit of Wonder I played
My initial opinions upon seeing the trailer looked a little something like this:

And I think that was a bit silly as I hadn’t ever played the game and I was just nitpicking it!
So I want to give a better overview of what I did play of the game and what I did and didn’t really like about what I managed to get through

I did not get very far unfortunately, I only got through the first world and a half before I felt little to no urge to progress on. This means I could have totally missed the good parts later on in the game.
My first complaint is the difficulty was very unbalanced. The first world other than one secret level felt extremely easy. However the secret level was way too hard for a world 1 level, and took me extremely long to get through

My thoughts on the art-style and animation of the game are still mixed, but I will say the foregrounds and backgrounds were amazing for the most part
I can not however, say the same about the objects and sprites…
They all looked very choppy and odd, and didn’t quite fit with the rest of the game. It kinda felt like a step backwards from even NSMB, a game that came out on a handheld only system in 2006, which is not really good for a game almost 20 years younger.

I still hold pretty much the same opinion on the elephant, it felt kinda, yk, off. Like it didn’t fit with the rest of the powerups since they still included suits for every other power up I experienced. I think it would have worked better if the powerups were all animal transformations, and we got like a bird Mario or a Dragon Mario who shoots fireballs instead of the traditional fire flower power up.

This is just my opinion though, and I didn’t play enough of the game to give a definitive view on how it was.
I might be giving it another shot when I am able to purchase a personal copy for myself due to not having access to a switch console of my own, and I’ll maybe post something else more positive later when I have seen better things in the game

Signing out,
OfuzzyboiO

Finally a refresh on 2D Mario. The New series was just stale at this point. Also it's cool that it's lore-breaking (walking singing piranah plants)

Piranha Plants (even if excluding Petey and Dino Piranha) have been shown walking in various Mario games prior to SMBW, like the Ptooies in SMB3 and the stretchy ones in NSMBW.

The artstyle (I haven't played it, but I've seen videos) is meh TBH. I just don't dig it. I like the New series's and SMW's artstyle better.

I do like it that the royal in distress is a prince now. We haven't seen a male """damsel""" (is there even a male counterpart for that word) in distress in mainline Mario since SMB2 (USA) - unless you count SML2, where the """damsel""" in distress is technically Mario himself. Nice to see some male representation in the royal segment.

The Wonder Effects are a leet touch - they change gameplay in a more impactful way than any ?-Switch has ever achieved.

The new enemies are fun. Though, we do miss one: Bubble Bro. I mean, come on!, NSMBW gave us the 2D variant of the Ice Flower and introduced Ice Bros., so why did you rob us of Bubble Bros., Nintendo?

And the best part: this game is already getting full-on hacks! And I don't mean model, texture, music or text hacks, I mean custom courses and actors (duped remodels of vanilla actors, but still)! You should check out Rimea on YouTube: they make Newer-quality SMBW custom courses.

Wow, I didn't know that SMBW is already so hackable. I will check out Rimea. Can the duped remodels do custom stuff?

Adding on my opinion: Wonder effect are indeed beatiful, and unique on each level, but sometimes I get confused because "there is much stuff going on".

For the Bubble Bro: I think it would be OP. Bubbles have greater range than hammers and unlike fireballs/iceballs they can float.

Not yet, but like they said it, custom code might become a thing soon.

If the bubbles from the Bubble Bros. are coded to pop when they hit a solid block, the Bubble Bros. could be put below a semisolid floor in a tunnel, so you never spend long inside a bubble if caught. Or the bubbles could pop after a second or one, two (to prevent cheese (not that the player's bubbles don't allow cheese )) and still be able to be controlled, albeit with slow directional and angular speeds (to avoid an unfair death by the bubble popping above a pit).

Yeah, they have an editor and a discord and everything already
It’s a lot more accessible than previous titles, and I think a lot of that has to do with the direct inspiration from mods.
I plan on checking it out at some point and trying to crack the world map system, looks like it might not be too hard.
Worth checking out tho, hopefully we’ll be able to fix the bosses and level progression in the future

Very different in gameplay. It plays like 3d Land/World without the 3d, it’s alright but not the best game, you aren’t missing out on too much unfortunately.

Interesting thing is that despite every character having the same physics, they all have their own individual physics parameter file, which contains the same parameters for every character in the final game because y'know, they all have the same physics. SMBW hackers like Rimea have been able to give the characters unique physics by editing these physics parameter files, like giving Luigi his higher jump and Blue Toad his faster running speed and lower jump.

The reason why each character has been given the same physics though, is because of the multiplayer support. Unique physics per character works better in singleplayer.

They probably have, giving the princesses more and more a role of playable characters - see also SM3DW. But any of this doesn't rule out Peach won't get kidnapped anymore. I don't really care, even though I find it a good thing they decided to introduce a prince this time to be the one we save (he isn't kidnapped, but still, his castle has been taken over, so he's still technically in distress). I do hope they throw some more curveballs towards us in terms of villains - we've had Wart, Tatanga, Wario, Bowser's Brother (arguably) - well, those were all non-Bowser villains we've had in mainline Marios. I hope they re-introduce Wart someday as the villain of a mainline Mario game.

hey hey

I did play some of that game, but lost interest (ADHD and generally shitty mental health...)

I think it's a fun and weird kind of game, and playing it on drugs would be quite the experience

however, there's one aspect that bugs me: how the game comments every action you make. "good!" "nice!" etc. DAMMIT I'm trying to have an adventure here.

Hi  Arisotura, don't see you very much on this board.

The words that appear when you stomp enemies etc. are the equivalent of the score sprites in older Mario games. Because they nuked the score mechanic, but not the kill chain (stomp or shell/trunk kill 8 enemies in a row to get 1-Ups), they needed something to show how far in the kill chain you are. I also have a feeling you might not like New++ Super Mario Bros. by Illy...

A thing I really don't like about SMBW is the revamped sound effects. The power-up spawn-from-block sound is tolerable, but the jumping sound really

yeah no, if you dont like the action labels then you're not gonna like that out of a few hacks that are currently in development lol
