I've always wondered why in Ghost House levels when you take the normal exit both backgrounds are visible, but when you take the secret exit the top background is not visible at all, even though both exits share the same area (albeit not the same view).

I finally found why : this is because unknown value 3 on the view's settings has a value of 1.

This is what each unknown setting does when you assign them a value of 1 :
_unknown 1 : disable the bottom background for the selected view instead of the whole area
_unknown 2 : still unknown…
_unknown 3 : disable the top background for the selected view instead of the whole area

Notice how the unknown settings are in the same order as header blocks 3, 4 and 5 ; thus I strongly suspect that unknown 2 has to do with header block 4 but I can't confirm it.

Stealing attention wasn't my intent, I even used the search feature with the following terms "Header block 8" since those are the most relevant to the topic.
I just realized that I could have found it with the search terms "Unknown 2(a)" and "Unknown 3(b)", which are, sorry but I'll be blunt, quite a cryptic way to find a matching topic (from 3 years ago, no less).

Since my thread is apparently less than useless, mods or admins can trash it, sorry for making you lose time.
