It has 50% chance of lowering the defense, but that doesn't help, considering how awful this move is, and the effect is rather rare (perhaps if it had 100% chance, it would be more viable).



This cave has wild Psyducks on first floor? Hm, this is first encounter, so I guess it could be good to capture. Then again, I wouldn't mind a Zubat or Geodude either.



I think this is too powerful to weaken the enemy.

Actually, raising just one Pokémon was a viable strategy before Generation V improved the experience formula. Sweet Honey is one of the worst gimmicks ever invented IMO. Put honey, wait 6 hours, go to the tree, and battle. You don't want to wait 6 hours for 1% chance that only happens on 4 trees (the game randomly chooses 4 trees that contain Munchlax - and even if the tree does have it, the chance is just 1%, and Pokémon is determined when you put honey, so no resetting).

Yes! Team Galactic sure has dumb grunts. It works for every villain team. After all, villain teams could put an NPC roadblock to block the player, and yet they don't do it for some reason, which leads to their demise.

I tried to use Bind here.



And here, the enemy tried to use Hypnosis. The Hypnosis accuracy is funny, in my opinion. Before fourth generation, it was 60%, which is fine for such powerful move. In Diamond and Pearl, they decided to increase its accuracy to 70%. This made the sleep more viable for users that couldn't have learned Sleep Powder. In fact, perhaps too viable (it was just 5% lower than Sleep Powder), with lower Sleep Powder distribution. In Platinum, the Game Freak understood that, and they decided to change Hypnosis move's accuracy back to 60%. Yes, they decided to make change like this in middle of generation. When battling between Diamond/Pearl and Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver, the accuracy is set to 60%.

If I remember correctly, there were three moves that changed within a generation. One of it is Hypnosis I mentioned above. The second is something that you are unlikely to care, because it's Shadow Rush, shadow type move that never existed in the handheld games. Enough said, it had base power 90 in Colloseum, and it was decreased to 55 in XD (and lost recoil, which made the game easier (considering that your goal is to catch mons using Shadow Rush)). Now considering that it was super effective against non-shadow mons, it was a very powerful move that made Colloseum very hard (along with other factors, such as lack of wild Pokémon, bosses using good strategies, overuse of Shadow Rush which has recoil, and so on).

The third is classic Blizzard. In Japanese Generation I games, Blizzard had 30% chance of freezing, and 90% accuracy. Yep, there was 27% chance of freezing. In the game where freeze was overpowered. In first generation, there existed only three ways to unfreeze - use item (not usable in link battles), getting attacked with fire type move (good luck with that, considering that opponent uses ice type moves), or opponent using Haze (what was arguably a bug that made Haze not usable competitively, even ignoring its low distribution (do you want to remove paralysis?), because Haze removed opponent's status conditions, without removing yours, even if it affected other stat changed). The chance of 27% made Blizzard way better than any OHKO move, considering that it dealt damage even if it didn't freeze. If it froze, your Pokémon is as good as fainted.

But I digress. Why I even spent so much time on commentary of missed move?



However, Bind actually worked, even if it doesn't deal much.

Now I'm going to lower the defense, in order to deal more damage.



From what I see, the opponent gave up on trying to Hypnosis me.



With this, the defense is three times lower. I guess it's time for attack.



Yeah, level 9 totally beats level 13. Hey, elemental rock, paper, scissors just works.

Now... this. I think it's one of most controversial moves. Smogon banned it everywhere, and it's quite annoying if you can set it. The problem is about setting it up. Stall Pokémons could easily set up, especially with Baton Pass. In fact, Flint's Drifblim in Diamond/Pearl has both Double Team and Baton Pass, so unless you can defeat it quickly, have fun. Bertha's Quagsire has Double Team combined with Protect, Sandstorm, and Dig, limiting the opportunity to actually hurt it. Aaron's Dustox knows Toxic and Double Team, dealing you damage, while you cannot hit him. Elite Four in Sinnoh is outright Double Team abuse.

However, what does that mean for me. Well, for more difficult battles, set up is not that hard (especially when Pokémon is not vulnerable to opponent moves). I can set on first mon, and get hit one third of time. I'm not sure if that would be fun, but who knows. It's Pokémon game, after all, everything is broken anyway.

While annoying, I don't think this is insta-win move, more like uncompetitive move (because it depends on luck), but it may be useful for more difficult battles that may be in the future. If it turns out that it removes most of fun from the game, I will stop using it. Until then, well.



However, the choice of move to remove is easy. Quick Attack > Tackle.



Actually, you had quite a good Pokémon. Too bad that 1 Pokémon is not viable outside of 1v1 metagame.

Wild Pokémon are just silly. Charge doubles power of next electric move (this moveset doesn't have any), increases special defense until the end of current turn (this was added in fourth generation (in third generation, it only doubled electric moves power), and I could argue that doing this just for one turn could have been a bug, because it was fixed in fifth generation, and nothing in game says that it behaves this way). That's about it. While you could think that increase of Special Defense is a good idea, I think it's not, because it works only for one turn (again, I think it's a bug). Increasing Special Defense for one turn without damaging some other way is just plain silly.

Hm, now to paralyse the enemy. Switch.

The game is wrong. Shinx should have had Illuminate according to this description. It just... perfectly fits here. Perhaps Flavourmons metagame could be interested. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Pokémon with Illuminate blink after being hit, which fits the definition of trouble.
