Is r116 still the latest version that works for Download Play without firmware.nds?

If so, can someone link a direct download to it? I tried in the past to compile from Google Code and couldn't get it to work, I'd be much better off with a .rar

I dont get what you mean. Also, just the fact that citing google code makes me wonder if you have checked the new revisions.

Anyway, Click Here to download the lastes NSMB editors in a .zip/.rar file.

Well I dunno whats this "firnware.nds" is.

So dunno, but download play still works if you don't edit the levels.

"...but download play still works if you don't edit the levels. "

Heh, what I was after was the Mario v. Luigi level editing.
Such as discussed in this thread: http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?pid=206088

I just need NSMBe r116 or similar O__O

Actually, I dont know the current situation of editing mario vs luigi levels. If you're interested in that, this thread might be in interest for you.

If you really need r116, I can compile you a copy of it, but I'm not sure that's going to fix your problem. Download play is a very touchy thing and lots of stuff causes it to break.

Edit:  gridatttack, that post only applies to multiple people using the same ROM, not with download play.

I think its pretty obvious that you need the same rom to play edited MvsL levels, unless I missed some detail

Actually, I have never heard of someone getting it to work with just one rom edited.

Well, if I recall correctly, it is possible to run download play with only one modified ROM. The other person uses download play, so it's not that they are using an unedited ROM, they are just not using one at all. This is what firmware.nds was used for (it's a copy of the original DS's firmware converted to run on flash cards), because apparently the newer DS models had some changes that caused it to break.

Oh well, I dont know how I missed that information, but its nice to know that mvsl edited levels works with only 1 rom, but considering that maybe most people have a newer DS, its harder that method than it is with both edited roms.

It IS possible to get DLP to work with edited levels to *any* DS version.
The problem is the ROM header. NSMBe modifies the ROM header to update the used ROM size. This is needed for edited ROMs to work in some flashcards.

BUT the modified header makes DLP stop working because the header is digitally signed and can't be modified.

The solution is: Edit whatever you want in the ROM, and then hex edit it and replace the header with an original one again. Then DLP will work (if your card doesn't need the correct ROM size in header).

It's a tradeoff between two things:
- DLP working
- Edited roms working in all cards.

Since having the ROM work is the most important, we decided back then to make NSMBe update the header.

Yes. The first 0x200 bytes of the ROM.

Also when you paste the original header in the edited ROM, make sure you're replacing it, and not adding bytes. If you add bytes it'll move all the data and it won't work.

Ah, okay. How can I copy-paste in XVI32, or is there a different hex program you use?

I'm not sure but I think you can copy-paste as-is using Control+C and Control+V....

I mean it won't let me highlight multiple rows -- at least, I don't think so.

Then I dunno... I'm sure it's possible to copypaste multiple bytes so you must be doing something wrong
