What it'd be useful for? I dunno. But it's nice and secure.

https://nsmbhd.net/.

Browsers will pop up a warning message because the server cert is self-signed. That's normal, you have to add an exception for it. Properly signed certificates cost a lot of money

Well, one reason for HTTPS can be dodging typical parents' measures on port 80, like filtering, logging or (derp) 'kids go to bed when we say so'... that's what I was told when I asked about Board2's HTTPS.

Also why is Mini-Mario spitting out HTTP and HTTPS links randomly? Does it actually make the link depending on whether the user used HTTPS or not?

(also, the :443 in the URL is unneded, since that's the default port for https)

Dunno, it's probably a bug in Mini-Mario.
Testing it right now...

You can get a free certificate from http://www.startcom.org

These guys seem to be trustworthy, ArsTechnica says they're excellent, you might still want to Google.

A free certificate will still trigger browser warnings, though. There'd be no point in checking certificates for whitelisted authorities if one could get 'good' certificates for free (and more importantly that'd kinda defeat the purpose of SSL).

There would be no point to my comment if it would.
