Hi guys. i am new to this level editor thing. so I edited a multiplayer
level. when i went to play it with my friends, it crashed. i am the only
one who has the game so we had to ds download. can someone explain
to me what i did wrong and how to get it to work please?

i tried the firmware trick but it did not work.
is there any other way besides flashme???

Hmm well then you only have one option left, as stated in the thread Piranhaplant linked to.
Make sure the other person has a flashcart and put your NSMB ROM with the modified multiplayer levels on the flashcart. Then multiplayer should work.

Wait, WHEN does it crash?
When you're downloading? Or when you start a level?
These are two very different things.

If it crashes when you're downloading, use the custom firmware.nds
If it does when you play the level, it's because you have used Sprite 0, used not-usable sprites, or other things.

ummmmmm this may apply to the multiplayer NARC patch button thing in the editor also dirbaio I dont know exactly anything about that button what does it do anyway maybe stablizing a multiplayer level?

The multiplayer levels are loaded from some NARC files instead of the normal level files.

So if you edit the normal level files and play multiplayer, you'll see NO changes at all.
Those buttons copy the normal level files to the NARCs so you actually see the changes. One copies the levels, the other copies the tilesets and backgrounds.
