NSMB DS "Deluxe", an old goofy hack i made



Alright so, here's a hack I've been working on in 2022. The hack itself is not that great, but this doesn't mean it's not fun!
I gave up this hack because i took a break from making it, then i was not satisfied with the level design, and some of the bugs...

The thing is not that the levels were unfun to play, it's just that it feels like random stuff has been thrown in here and there whenever i wanted to place something; rather than being focused on a few gimmicks for the whole level.

This hack has some great ideas tho, like a sunset-themed world! But the execution wasn't that great...

Don't be sad that i gave up this hack, i'm currently working on a new one, with code hacks, WAAAAAY better level design, and reusing the old ideas i had!

Anyway, i'll stop with boring talk, and show the screenshots!



Here's what this hack has to offer:

-1 full world + 2 levels
-Questionable/weird level design, sometimes fun, sometimes not really
-Custom textures
-probably some bugs and/or goofiness
-No code hacks (apart from a tiny bit of hex-editing stuff)

I just realized how terrible I am at giving credits lol

A few tips to make your experience more enjoyable:
-Be careful when throwing shells, most of the time, it will hit a wall and kill you
-Watch your step, accidents happen often in this hack, especially in the "mushroom" levels. i died countless times while testing
-Dont question why half of the level have Piranha Plants. I have no idea why i did that (the more i think about it, the more i feel like the hack should have been called "NSMB: Piranha Plants Invasion" lol)

I finished the hack and tbh it's pretty nice!
Except that on the last level you can literally softlock yourself at the part where platform is going up and spikes throw you a ball towards you and in that place you can just fall from that platform, kill every Spike and just stay there because you can't do nothing until time runs out, don't do that!

In this hack i like that every world has different theme so it's not repetive and boring.
Especially World 1 Castle (and W1-A) this is my favorite level but the only problem i see there is that, if you enter the pipe somewhere in the middle of the level you can find 2 Star but when you finally leave the area, you are already in the bossfight and can't comeback so you could get 3'rd star.


Obviously i have too some problems with this hack like:
-Too many power ups that are not too far from each other
-Repetive star coins (By that i mean for example that few levels have indentical way to get a star coin like throwing a shell)
-Too close flag pools to those "stairs" at the end of the levels
-That softlock part lmao


Overall i think it's nice short hack and i do recommend to play it
