please, don't start inviting people right when you're done setting up your freeforum. only do once you have some proper content setup.

also, I share the belief freeforums are cheap. too many sections for a forum that just started, many features you're never gonna use, no good visuals to show on the main page (or anywhere really), clutted subpages, and a generally -freeforum default- feel.

I have seen so many noobs start those kind of sites I have a strong bias against them. I know not everybody has the knowledge to make an entire site, but those are always a failure because of the same damn reasons.
they try to be something they cannot be.

for a ROMhacking niche to work, it needs:

-somebody experienced at hacking the game to help people out. needs be an admin, or somebody equally involved with the site.

do you hack SMK?

no? then you can't direct anybody, you can't tell them what to do or not to do. you can't answer thier questions. you're an outsider to the very activity you host.

yes? but not much? if you don't hack the game to the furthest level you can, then you can't help out if your users were to try anything complex. you lack the knowledge to troubleshoot because you don't know how the game works. and most of all, you're.. not that dedicated. people see through that.

-tools to give your users to mod the game, that you made. you need to know how they work precisely. that goes in par with knowing how the game works.

most owners of ROMhacking sites are directly involved in the creation of the main editors. to make an editor, you need to disassemble the game and understand how it works in order to view, edit, or do anything to the content.
communities assemble when several knowledged individuals pool together to try and take apart the game to its fullest extent, document their findings and make tools, allowing dedicated users to make projects thanks to thier work.

-history of activity in ROMhacking the game, to spark interest and invite people in. things to showcase. if you show nothing, then how are they gonna know? who would stay in an empty room just to do as they're told and fill it up on thier own?

-a site fitting your needs precisely and feels at home. for this, customs websites are good but not an absolute necessity.
nevertheless, if you're going to run any site you should learn the basics of web coding. HTML, styling, simple stuff.
no given software is perfect in all situations, you'd want to be able to customize what you already have and make it your own.

just leaving it to the defaults and telling people heay look I mad a site gives a not-so-good impression.

-last but not least, you need a target audience. people interested are into hacking the game, not just roped into it because of the offer. how many people have you seen on this site, one? I honestly doubt they're going to join a forum like this if they already do everything alone. they have virtually no need for what your site offers, they've been lone for the longest time.

I'm sorry for popping your bubble, but a real community is no little thing you kickstart at the snap of a finger ten seconds after getting the idea.

Fine! Nobody has to listen! If you're not joining it, then leave me be! You think I have this all figured out because all the admin on NSMBHD do well at being admin! If you have sky-high standards, then stop poking into my business! I want to form my stuff into how I see fit, and I don't want you calling me out for not being perfect at it just to feel better about yourself! I refuse to listen. People can join the forum if they want. I'm not expecting anyone. I don't care, but i'd appreciate it.

hey hey. if you don't want criticism, then say so.

granted, I went a bit harsh, but I put actual thought into that. I'm not here to make you feel bad about yourself.
also. it's not supposed to be sky-high standards, but simply to know what you're doing. however you get there is up to you, but you'll find having people help giving you pointers to be the quickest way.

I'm not calling you out, and I'm certainly not expecting you to be perfect. heck, this board is so far off from perfect and it runs. because the staff knew what they were doing when they created it.

Sorry for being so rude when responding. I guess the Forum's got a lot of evolving to do.
EDIT: Did someone attempt to register the SMKHD?! Whoever did is on NSMBHD because the link is so unpredictable no one could just type it. I've only shared the link here, SMK Universe and My profile.
