Try a different username.
The register page blocks usernames that are listed in the StopForumSpam database. I don't have access to change that. I keep bugging Dirbaio but he never changes it. So in the meantime, well... If you desire it, I can change your username to the one you initially wanted. _________________________ Kuribo64 - zrghij |

It's meant as a protection against spammers and other lamers. It should only check IP addresses, but for whatever reason Dirbaio made it check usernames too, which is a bad idea.
The error message is "An unknown error occured, please try again.". _________________________ Kuribo64 - zrghij |

But it would only block really stupid, spammy, generic usernames, right? Like MarioHacker123?

Guess it's good to an extent; perhaps there are some banned users who tried to reregister with the same username several times, maybe it is to avoid two users with the same name or the use of offensive terms. I suppose only Dirbaio knows.

nah. usernames that end up in SFS are those used by forum spammers (those guys posting links to inflate some site's Google ranking). any usernames can be used for these purposes.
also, the error message is completely wrong, basically telling people to keep banging on the door. _________________________ Kuribo64 - zrghij |

The wrong error message was done on purpose, to confuse spammers
I just updated register.php to not check usernames. Only emails and IPs are checked now. |

Well, it's good this way. Emails should be unlikely to cause false positives. IPs could be an issue if someone tries to register from a public network, those tend to end up in SFS.
Besides, we don't see spammers hit a lot these times, it's like the whole thing has slowed down. Even board2 gets very little spam. Amusingly, Kuribo64 gets a lot of spammers/bots trying to post without having an account. _________________________ Kuribo64 - zrghij |
