New Super Mario Bros Returns!

This hack will be a completely original hack, however will not introduce any new gameplay mechanics or enemies. It will mostly tilesets from future NSMB games.

Yea, beta testers would be good, and since I know the level layouts, I feel like I have bias over whether parts are fair or fun. However I will be releasing a demo when I finish the first world (I still have to finish 1-5 and do 1-A and 1-Castle) and that will probably be next week. You can be a beta tester once I make more worlds though!

This level is filled to the brim with bullet bills, but don't worry! There are multiple paths that all lead to the same end. However, only the harder ones hold star coins as prizes...

I feel like I am using too many pipes... so the next world will have to feature another gimmick! But hey, since I am using so many pipes why not turn them into homes for piranha plants?

Ah, yes. I might have gotten carried away with my enemy placement... but no matter! As you can see, I have started to work on World 2! What does that mean? Yes- World 1 is complete!!! Check in the main post for the download link to the patch. Of course, this is only a demo, but hey- I'm seeing much progress with this hack.

Although the sunset effect was unused, if paired with the also unused yellow clouds you get a very nice atmosphere. Oh and watch out for those evil pipe residents.

If I remember correctly, the yellow clouds background was used at least one time in the original game, and that was in the sky part of World 2-6, but it still looks great nonetheless.

I think you can figure out how to get that star coin... if you can't then you need to go play some more Mario...

I have been slow at updating my game (and working on it overall) because I have some real life projects that I am working hard on due to closing deadlines. Expect to see me disappear for some time for 2-3 weeks soon.

Also, the first world demo has been released, so if anyone would be kind enough to play it and critique, please do! I would rather there be some review on what I should change/improve, I don't want to release a semi-functioning or boring hack.

Ehem... as I stated, I would be gone for a few weeks. I was working hard on a full video game which won me 4th place at a competition. So there. I am alive, and so is this topic. Rant completed.

Screenshot #9 (Way overdue)

So I am slowly getting back into the groove of making levels for this hack, but am finding it hard to do so because of school. Anyways, here I have an underground ice level. I was playing some Donkey Kong Country 2 the other day and I took inspiration from the ice/water level theme. I am only afraid that my placement of it in World 2 is a bit... off so to speak. But hey, who wants to traverse deserts the whole time, am I right?

So don't worry guys. I am still working on this. Remember, I have a life too and can't dedicate my whole time to this.
