I know this may seem like a stupid question, but where might I find the file that contains the top screen hud setup that appears when you are in a level. I have already found the graphics and palette, so I am good in that regard, I just need to find the file that contains the tile setup.

Edit: My apologies if I posted this in the wrong section...

I assume you mean "UI_O_1P_game_in_u.bncl" and "UI_O_1P_game_in_d.bncl" in the UIStudio folder).

Yes, I suppose so, but for some reason, I can't seem to open .bncl files in any version of NSMBe that apparently has support for it(343 and onward).

Edit: Oops, I thought there was support, but for some reason, there is only support for .bncd.

Well, it's not a graphics format and only controlls where the hud elements are. But you can easily edit it with the documentation  KingYoshi linked.

Well, it sucks that you have to hex edit in order to move the hud elements around, but at least I managed to figure the positioning out through trial and error, until I got the results I wanted, a hud where the coin counter and timer are setup a la SMB3.

Ambiance64 used MKDS Course Modifier to modify those files.

Oh, well, I guess I could use MKDSCM, so long as it isn't time-consuming.

Edit: Um, I tried using MKDSCM for the bncl files, but, all that showed up was a black space...

Well, I guess you can say that I went a little farther and started on the touch screen hud, and before you ask, yes everything is in working order(meaning touching the item will make the item appear on the top screen), and the graphics for the star coin slots are unmodified seeing as I am using this as a base for NSMBLT.

So I think it's safe to say that I get how this works now, even though I couldn't use MKDSCM to do any of it, which makes hex editing my preferred method. Also, thanks to everybody for your help.

Hmm. It needs some retouch. For example the "thing that the pick up Star Coin" it needs to do it astute. And then the head of Mario goes out out of the bar. And for the bar progress you have always used the hex editing or you have used the method of the files NSC?

I believe I addressed this by saying that the graphics will remain unmodified, seeing as this is a base for NSMBLT and the graphics will be modified for the NSMBLT version.

I am aware of this, but it doesn't really annoy me too much.

I have only used hex editing for the hud element positions. But I used the nscr editor in NSMBe for the progress bar, and am fully aware that the progress bar needs to be fixed.
