Is this possible? For example I saw in someones hack they replaced the paragoomba with a shyguy... The shyguy had the same movement as the paragoomba.

Of course it's possible. Also, sprite images can be 2D images, or textures used for 3D models. Don't mistake both.

Nah. To do it, you just needs to edit the files of the game (you can do it with NSMBe, the files are in the 'ROM File Browser' section.
