Hey there guys! I´m Luigi63 and im a newbie on Rom hacking. I´ve already finished editing on a level from a hack i´ve just started, but i have a problem in a "secret area" i made on a pitfall. When mario falls into it, the camera doesnt follow him. How can i solve this?
Another question, can someone explain me how can i put an image into a thread?

Can you show a screenshot of the editor or put up a download of the level so we can see? To add an image, just do this:

Also, welcome.

You need to have an place in a view in order to have the camera go there. However, if you make the view taller by making it go down to that box, then it will show the lower area everywhere in that view, thus screwing up the level. The default view of 1-1 doesn't scroll vertically, anyways.

You might be able to make this work by expanding the view and using some of the camera sprites, though. I'm not too good with those, so ask someone else if you want help with them.

You can put a warp zone.

Take a look at how it's done in World 2-1. It does exactly this.

The trick is to extend the view to the bottom, so it covers the secret area below. Then, to avoid the camera going down in the rest of the level, you can put bottom scroll stops all along the level, except in the pit.

You may need to fiddle with the level layout a bit to avoid the camera jumping, for example making the edges of the pit higher.

If you really want to do it like on the picture you can do that:
(Im sure you dont want the player to see the room until he doesnt falls down, right?!)
So I expanded the tiles in the view 3 blocks to the bottom.
You then have to expand the view to the y level where the ground of your secret room is.
Tick scroll vertically in the view settings.
After that you place the sprites "In air vertical scroll stop right/left" on the y axis where you expanded the tiles before.
IIRC Dirbaio has explained the workings of those camera sprites somewhere... Im sure you'll find it with the search function!
The only place where the scrolling should not be stopped is the hole so let free space there. Do the same camera thing on the other side.
The reason why expanding the tiles to 3 is cause if you dont do it you have to set the scroll stop on the y axis of the ground and if you then jump over a hole there will be a camera bug (that is not relevant in 2-1 because there you dont jump over a hole, you can only enter it!).
I also set another Camera Sprite at the beginning of the level that avoids a camera bug at level start. And I placed some horizontal scroll stoppers in the secret room so that you cannot see the missing ground tiles.I also used tileset 1 instead of brick blocks from tileset 0.
...okay that would sound a bit hard to understand so just look how I made it

Downlaod: http://nsmbhd.net/get.php?id=3884

And watch out! What you placed in the room arent coins...

Anyway, welcome to NSMBHD

Hi,  Luigi63, to solve your problem, the easiet way is expanding your view below and use some camera controller sprites.

You should put Sprite 198 marking the very left edge on your "ground" tile, the bottom-most tile you want to see in real gameplay. Sprtie 199 for the very right edge consecutively. These sprites will prevent the game to pan the camera into regions below the ground level they are placed. It will act just like the view stops there, but you can make this tweak: tick Allow Disable. When you actually fall down into the pit, you won't die. The sprites will allow you to "fall" through their limits and come back over again.

However, when you come up again, as you pass the boundary of the sprites, the camera will instantly bounce up to make the bottom limits of the gameplay window at the ground tile level. Keep that in mind. If this bothers you, you could try  Dirbaio's method. If you don't know how to, feel free to ask!
