Hello! I am new to modding snes titles. I am familiar with the approach towards duke nukem 3d, doom, unreal, quake, half life, etc. so please bare with me as I learn. I am new to this board, so any help that you may be able to provide me with would be amazing! for starters, I am wanting to simply edit a level from 'scratch' and play through it. eventually, I would like to edit my own sprites and be able to share working titles, maps, levels, settings, etc. with friends. I would also like to know how to successfully port a title to where it can be played on an xbox, 369, wii, wiiU, or PC and easily be made available for friends and family to share a gaming experience. is this a frustrating, but rewarding task?

any tips, experiences, links, videos, or any thing else will be very helpful! thank you for your patience as I am new to this. having been an NES gamer all my life, I'm excited about this.

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some links or tips on editing super Mario kart. I'm wanting to create custom tracks but I'm not sure how to test, start a track from scratch, share, move to an xbox wii or wiiU, etc. I am currently using Epic Edit. Any thanks is greatly appreciated!

Moving to general ROM hacking.

I'd say, try out, and see what you like the best. I didn't try hacking those other than playing around a bit with SMW.

Also, 'Mario (NES)' isn't precise. It could refer to Mario Bros, SMB, SMB2 or SMB3...

Hello, I can provide some info. You can go to http://www.romhacking.net/ to find info for editor for some games.

====================================================================================

As for Super Mario Kart, I can provide some help in there.
The best editor now is Epic Edit

As for starters, best thing to do when making a track is, erase everything, so you dont end up having tracks looking similar to the original ones. here is an example of what I manage to do in Epic Edit: http://youtu.be/Ihwd_k3yx6E

====================================================================================

As for easiest to edit, I say Super Mario World. Go here, its an entire page dedicated hacking the game: http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=main
There is simply so much you can edit, and the editor is pretty easy to use too.

I dont recommend editing NES mario games and zelda, since they are really limited. You cant add enemies in SMB1 an SMB3 because the game corrupts.

thank you for the help already! there's a huge difference in side scrolling adventures as opposed to first person shooters when it comes to editing game data. I downloaded a copy of epic edit this afternoon! I'm enjoying it so far! how do I try and play a course that has been edited? if these questions have already been asked in the forums, I apologize. I'm having a difficult time finding any FAQs or guides... I will try out the SMW link! thank you again!

To play any SNES games, you need an emulator for it. I personally use Zsnes, but they are others. They play the modded game file.

Check the ROMhacking Domain link I posted before. It host editors for most games.

As for NES titles, remember, they arent easy to edit, and you cant add new things because they game will corrupt.

For Super Mario Bros. 3, I use SMB3Workshop. Its pretty straightforward in stuff.
There is this Super Mario Bros. editor thats pretty complete, but its in Japanase so I dont knwo the name of it. Im sure you will find it on RHDN.

Nope. You only have that space available, unfortunately.
You cant add zone object either.

You can only add the colored boxes where the AI will follow them and the preset objects that will appear in GP mode.
