So, I might be getting a DS Lite. If I DO, I want to put FlashME on for the following reasons:

To play homebrew ds download play games
To get pass the health screen
To protect from the 1 know DS Bricker

I don’t want it at ALL to boot from slot-2. I heard however, that sleep does not work with FlashME unless there is something in Slot-1. Since I would being using the slot-1 R4 card only, will sleep mode work just fine?

Lol yes, but... Which of these have Download Play?

I mean, yes, you can run any homebrew ROM over Download Play, but the result is the same as just booting it from a flashcard... There's no special benefit in using download play (?)

I think there probably isn't. I'll keep searching though…

Awesome! Thanks! Oh, sorry. I was referring to hacks (like my Brand New Super Mario Bros. and stuff like that) for download play. I don’t know what I was thinking when I wrote it .

Ah, NSMB hacks. That makes more sense

Also, just in case you don't know: if you're still not comfortable with flashing, you can still do DLP with hacks, see tutorial How to get MvsL hacks to work. Multicart and Download Play. It won't give the other FlashMe benefits though

I knew that. That was very helpful by the way . I saved it to my offline reading list! While we are on the subject of FlashME, I have a few more questions:

How long does it take to install?

I saw a picture that said that if the DS lost power while installing, it would be bricked. Why don’t people just leave it plugged in?

What metal thing did you use to short circuit your SL1? I heard a toothpick with tinfoil works the best.

Are there any others way for the DS to be bricked while installing?

I’m not worried about my future DS being bricked. I just want to lower the chances as much as I can.

Thanks!

Also, since i’m not going to boot into slot 2, I should probably get FlashMe NoAuto, right?

Yes, DO NOT power off the DS while you're installing FlashMe. Also keep it plugged in case you run out of battery. Obviously.

If you do that properly there's absolutely no risk to get it bricked

I used a paperclip to short it, but maybe toothpick + tinfoil is better. It can be tricky to short it. If during installation it loses contact, the installation will stop, waiting for you to short it again, and then it will continue. The installer is designed with this in mind. It even makes a beeping sound so you know if it's working correctly without having to look at the screen.

And yes, NoAuto is ok

Okay. Thanks! So, just making sure (I like to do that a lot), is this what I would do?

Put the FlashME NoAuto.nds file on the slot 1 R4 card (and only have that ROM on the card. My R4 card says it acts as a PassMe).
Select the only ROM on my slot 1 R4 card (the FlashME)
Take off the battery cover and grab a toothpick with tin foil on it.
Plug in the DS Lite.
Press X, B, X, B.
Put the tooth pick with tin foil in the SP1 to short-circuit it.
Wait until it’s done.
Turn off the DS Lite WHEN IT’S DONE INSTALLING.
But the battery cover back on.
Enjoy FlashME!
