First post on this website!
I am making a New Super Mario Bros hack at the moment, but I was wondering, when I have finished, is it possible to play it on an actual DS instead of an emulator? I was thinking this would probably be possible with an SD card or something, but I'm pretty sure DS Lites don't have an SD slot. So would there be any other way you could do this? _________________________ This is a footer. |

Yes, it is possible. You will need something thats called a "flashcard", which is basically a ds game card with a microsd slot in it that lets you load roms from it on a real ds.
Examples of flashcards are the R4, the Supercard DSTwo, and many others. Have a look on google. You can buy these things online. These things are usually used to pirate games but they are also useful for legit uses, like playing ROM hacks and homebrew games and software. Edit: ninjad, lols |

Ok, thanks!
Wait, does this let you make a custom name and icon come up when you put the card in the DS or is that impossible? _________________________ This is a footer. |

Yes it is. The icon you can change in the editor. And the name which will be showed on the ds is the file name.

Arceus: that's the game boot screen graphics, not the ROM icon.
The ROM icon and titles are stored in banner.bin |

But what I mean is it possible to have the DS menu, with Pictochat, Download Play, and all that, is it possible to have the custom game name and icon come up straight there or is it only possible to have to load the flashcard first and then select the game?

Flashcards have their own menu, so on the DS menu you'll always see the flashcart's icon and name.
I don't think there's an easy way to turn a flashcard into a fake game card like that. IIRC there were some very very old flashcards that didn't have a menu, you would copy one game into it and it would behave like a real game card containing that game. If you wanted to play another game you'd have to copy again. I'm not sure if it was DS or GBA carts. And either way, good luck finding one of these, they're oooold. |

Posted by gridatttack I think there is a bios.nds file, in which be the menu with pictochat etc, but idk if it would work. firmware.nds but that's not what he wants, he's asking if it's possible to make the flashcard behave like a single-game card like an original DS gamecard. |

Yeah, I have tried, not only searching for old flashcards, but also searching for how to achieve this whole goal. I have found nothing.
