Why not have the option to close a thread if it's your own?

uhh no
it's only the mods job to do that, and it can be abused by regular users if it is implemented. :>

how? What if you found out a question to your thread, don't want comments on it etc.? It could also have it so it would not damage your karma.

For some reason I think that the idea is for karma saving too. Why do so many people give a shit about a simple number?

If your thread is answered, just ask a mod to close it. Only takes about 2 minutes.

But what if other people are on and they start posting on it? You wanted not posts on it, right?

Closing your own thread isn't a good idea, that's usually a moderator's job, not for normal users like me and you. I would say this is a bad idea as shibboleet mentioned above.

What's wrong with doing it only if it's your own thread? Why is it only a mods job?

There are many reasons. The most important one is normal users abusing it just to get higher post ranking.

For closing ALL threads, not just their own. Can't mod just ban people if they do that?

Doesn't mean that people wouldn't abuse it.

Or what about just not caring?

There's no reason for closing a thread unless you want it to be an announcement style thread (staff only) or the thread is turning into a shitfest.

Besides, closing a thread doesn't reduce anyone's karma.

For example, if someone made a free tile set and didn't want comments on it.

Moderators have the power to ban, delete and have other privileges. The reason this is a bad idea is because normal people will abuse it. No question about it. Plus, closing/trashing a thread is a PRIVILEGE and is for moderators only.
