Hello, DarkBones here, and I apologize if the following few questions are incredibly n00by, as I'm not quite used to NSMBe (I come from SMWC, so I'm a Lunar Magic kinda guy ).

Well anyways, I'm making a level with volcanos in the background, and I have a few questions.

1) How do I edit backgrounds (I don't mean replace them entirely, I mean something akin to Map16 if you're familiar with LM)? I'm using a top BG of 16, and a bottom BG of also 16, and I need them to tile correctly.

2) How do I get those falling magma rocks to stop? I'm not sure yet if I want them or not, so I'd like them off for the time being.

Thank you for your time!

The magma rocks are determined by the Bottom BG slot number. So, if you don't want them, you'll have to export the background, import it in a different slot and use that one instead.

Also keep in mind the slot number also determines animations and other stuff, so the BG can look wrong if you put it in some slots.

To edit BGs, the easiest way is export as PNG, edit, then import it again.
You can also do it by hand, but it's way slower and limited: open the palette+graphic file, draw some tiles by hand, then open the BG and place these tiles using the tilemap editor (Simply doubleclick the BG in the "Backgrounds" tab)

Hope it helps

Okay, thanks. I'll try that out in a bit. Out of curiosity, what slot would you suggest replacing?

I'm not sure, I don't know the animations of each slot.

Simply, stay away from animated stuff. If a BG has something animated in it, like fire, it will break because the fire tiles are animated and will get overwritten so your BG will break.

And if one slot doesn't work well, try another

Okay, I replaced some other backgrounds (I don't know why I cared which for a 1 stage hack, but oh well...), and it worked like a charm. I do have a couple of more questions though.

1) Why does the BG repeat itself twice in the PNG file and BG viewer?

2) How do I completely clear all objects from a level?

BGs are 512x512 pixels (64x64 tiles). The editor shows the whole background. Ingame you can only see part of it, yep. Also depending on the BG ID, the game loops only one half of the BG. For example, in the peach castle BG, you only see the peach castle at the beginning. It also does this vertically, if you go up it'll only loop the sky part of BGs.

To delete everything in a level, do Control+A, then Delete.
