Problem described in the title already, I think it's more of an oversight rather than a proper bug.
It is one thing that is missing since the earliest builds of NSMB editor if I recall correctly.

US rom on the left, EU rom on the right.

What's weirder though is that the files F11_3.bin and F11_3_bgdat.bin are not displayed at all on the US rom, whereas on the EU rom they show fine

So, what do you think ?

Interesting. Have you tried importing F11_3.bin and F11_3_bgdat.bin into some other level and taking a look at it? You may have just found some unused content.

Another thought, it might have something to do with World 6's unused Cannon.

I checked this and its true. The part of area 3 is in area 1 in the US version.
Its odd, I wonder why they decided to give that part a whole new area.

Edit:
I understand now.

So this is a regional difference.

And it is an oversight that Area 3 does not appear in the editor in the version it appears in, so could this be fixed?

Okay, I'll have a look.
I'll look at making the editor read the level tables in arm9 so it always displays the right number of areas and levels.

This difference is quite weird.

Eur ROM is more recent than US, and also has some bugs fixed about collisions and all.

I wonder if they wanted to change some setting or something that required them to put it in another area... Are the two versions of the area really equal?

Out of curiosity I also looked at a Japanese and a Korean ROM, and both have 3 areas in that level like the EU version, so it's definitely a US-only exception.

Hmm. Strange.
On a related note, Dirbaio, could you tell me all the other differences between the versions of NSMB.

I don't know ALL differences lol.

The things I know are:

- EUR version has more languages, so it has some extra UI files that the others don't have.
- EUR version has more overlays IIRC. I think it's because of the lnaguage thing too.
- U has some bugs the other regions don't have. The one I can think about is "springboards pushed by moving stone blocks". They glitch terribly on U rom and not on EUR. As can be seen in this hack. It breaks if you apply the patch to an U rom but not to an EUR one. See video of the "springboard machine" on EUR rom. That breaks on U rom.
- And then there's this file difference. Lol.

So why are we using the (U) ROM as the main one. In my eyes it would be better then, if we all start to use the (E) one from now on.

If we'll use the EU Rom, we must make sure that you can open area 1, 2 and 3 in the editor.

Yes, I agree with using the E rom as default.
Unless there are later ones (korean, chinese?)

Because... uh.. we have an IDB database with hundreds of identified functions in the U rom, and none on the E rom... Merp.

Yeah we could start all over. But blargh.
