Doesn't actually do anything.

A few posts ago I was trying to use a [user] tag because I remembered seeing someone use one earlier. I was trying to type in the username instead of the ID, and I was confused as to why it just wasn't working.

So I'm going to suggest that the [user] tag accepts names as well as IDs. So [user=330] and [user=TRS] will both show  TRS.

(sorry if my post is badly-worded, I just couldn't think of a way to do it properly)

Yeah this is a thing I've always wanted to do
The problem is that it should only accept usernames, and not displaynames. because displaynames can change, and the link would break.
So I'm not sure...

Well, even if the display name changes, you can see what the username is by highighting the person's display name. No problem there.

I would really like this feature. Whenever I use my 3DS, I can't rollover a name to view the user ID, since it will just take me to their profile. This feature would be very helpful.

I assume your back end code looks up the user id and grabs info from the DB. If so, couldn't you just tell it not to make it a link if it finds nothing, and just show plain text of what the poster put in there?

The board could automatically change [user=USERNAME] to [user=ID] when posting the reply. But at this point, we would enter Dimension Board hax, so not sure about doing that.
