I edited area 1-level 1. But when I try to load it, it stops on the intro screen with the level number and your amount of lifes. I used only working sprites and I have a view, a path, and a spawn. Can someone please help me? Im new to all this.

It crashes in a black screen after the intro screen? Or in the intro screen itself?

The causes for it could be:
- Crash sprites in the level.
- Wrong starting entrance ID in the level settings.
- Wrong view ID in starting entrance.
- Sprites without enabled sprite set.
- Corrupted tilesets/BGs.

What have you edited exactly? Have you modified sprite sets somehow? Are you using "weird" sprites like boss sprites?

In the intro screen its self. When i go to the level i edited. It freezes on the intro screen with your lives and the level number. I tried waiting there for a while assuming that it was the emulator but i tried it like 5 times and it still didnt work.

So when it freezes, it's still showing the lifes? Not a black screen?
This is weird O.o
Usually, when there's something wrong with the level, NSMB freezes whenthe intro screen has faded out to black.

If you want, export your level and upload it and I (or someone else) will take a look.

Try to load the NSMB ROM noramlly. Start a new game and try again.
Don't use save states! When you change too much and you are still using an old state save, it causes a crash. (Happened to me lotsa times )
If you aren't using state saves and it still does not work, I am not able to help you.

Savestates work perfectly if you take them in the worldmap. If you take them in the intro screen it won't work because part of the level is already loaded or something.

But I don't think savestates is his problem.

I am serious. If you use a save state of the original game and then change a lot of things (music, level, textures, ...)
After some time the save states won't work anymore. (You have to start a new game or load the game from a .sav file.
When you make a savestate from there again, it will work again.

Even when in the world map?
I don't think so, when you're on the world map, nothing from the level is loaded. So IDK what could be causing it o.O

I guess it happens when changing the music. Music file is always loaded.

No, the SDAT file is not loaded itself. The code only loads the music/sounds that are in use at the moment. When in the worldmap, the game knows nothing about what's in the level file.

Also make sure to take the savestate *before* pressing A on the worldmap. I think it load some stuff as soon as you press A.

Yeah yeah, my save states are ALWAYS on the world map.
And I am sure it happened when hacking the music.

ray can confirm, that I often had problems with my state saves after he sent me the new sdat from NSHB. After starting a new game, all went well.

Yep thats true. Somehow the music is preloaded, so the new music won't play...

Ah. So you were replacing the entire SDAT file, not just changing the music in the level.
That's another thing. Of course the SDAT file is always in use.

lolol.

In conclusion, don't use save-states when testing new things.
Take for example hacking Super Mario World. You save the things in the editor, then play the rom, open a savestate, and the changes you did wont be there anymore.

Nice bump, you posted in a two-month-old thread that was already dead.
