It is possible... It's hard though.
If you want a simpler way you can enable Mini-Mario physics in the level settings. Then Mario jumps higher... Welcome to the board

Actually, Mario does not jump higher, but further.
He does not sink so fast.

Oh yea, or you can simply insert them into the ROM using a tool called DSATM.
