I just completed a remix of SMG2 final boss music(midi), now my question is, will I break the law when I post them online? Of course OST and mine are not the same, but they're similar.

I don't think it's a problem at all.
Youtube is full of OST remixes, but also of the OST themselves.

So yea, go ahead

The accounts that post the OSTs regularly get shut down for infringing copyrights, though.

But I think the remixes are fine.

Well, if its a MIDI I really dunno you will get in trouble. I have uploaded the OST of a SEGA ds game in youtube since 2009 and haven't got any trouble with copyright.
I guess you will be alright
