Say I want a variety of goomba that's only there in another hack. Is there a way to take that goomba and substitute it for one of the many unused sprites in NSMB?! I mean, is it possible to put a shy guy in for an unused sprite?

Any varieties of sprites found in other hacks are likely just graphics replacements of the existing sprites. So you would need to replace the graphics of the existing goomba with that of a shy guy, but then you won't be able to have the original goomba anymore.

I know that! It's just, what do the unused sprites do then?! Can't you replace them somehow?!

You can put some extra sprites into those unused slots using this tutorial. Otherwise, the unused sprites are useless and are simply left over from NSMB's development.

Yes, but you can't have two "goomba" sprites that use different graphics with that, which is what JLavin wants. Doing this would require somehow duplicating the classes and modifying one, or maybe easier, change the class to add an extra bit that chooses the graphics file... But we'd still have to *load* the alternate graphics file. And I dunno a shit about how that works |
