You mean when you replaced Mario's head with the one without the hat, when you get a fireflower, his head changes to funky colors?

Yeah I'm not sure how to fix this.  ray does, he has done it in ASMB.

Woohoooo... Thats one of the shittiest parts in NSMB hacking history. For some reason, the head of mario uses the colors of the third (or was it fourth?) palette of his body model when you have the fireflower. So you have to find the pixels that are not correct and then you gotta change the colors in the palette...

This is awesomely bad. I thought that filesystems and proper model file formats would end crazy ancient stuff like shared textures/palettes... apparently not. Wow, Nintendo. Wow.

Well, they do have in newer consoles like the Wii.
But knowing the amount of VRAM the DS has, it's impossible to code a decent game without these kinds of hacks, stuff simply doesn't fit in VRAM.
