It's really difficult finding a nice wooden log texture that fits with NSMB.

Pic of the Week - Week 6

Here we have a Spooky Forest prototype. This tileset is actually the first tileset I had completed for Endless Earth, made over a year ago. The background is a prototype. I know it needs work, so you can spare me the lecture. In the future, the trees will be changed to completely black, and the gradient for the clouds still needs a bit of tweaking to get right.

In all seriousness though, that looks quite awesome. I recall the tileset from somewhere (likely NSMBU/NSLU) but I can't seem to remember from where in those two games.

I think it's the "Outside Ghost House" Tileset.

Anyway it looks pretty good, and I don't think the background needs a serious revamp, I think it's fine the way it is IMO.
The only problem is that lighted up tree but you're aware of that and it'll be fixed, so good luck and continue like that.

Here's a forest area with level design shamelessly stolen from New Super Mario Bros. U. Well, not exactly. When I played NSMBU in 2012 I really enjoyed Sode Jungle, particularly the focus on Giant enemies. That's not possible in New Super Mario Bros. DS, so instead I mimicked the visual design while making tweaks to how to progress through the area. In NSMBU, you would have been able to knock a Giant Koopa Shell into those bricks. In Endless Earth, you have to take a different, more puzzle-based approach.

At the moment, bottom screen is fairly empty and useless- it hasn't changed all that much from the announcement screenshots. I do intend on remaking the "Endless Earth" text where the Star Coins used to be but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I have a question. If, like, you die, where in this giant world do you respawn?

This isn't good enough to be a Pic of the Week, so there will be another image at the usual time tomorrow.

For anyone wondering what the Bottom Screen looks like right now...

Well I don't even think you need the "M1" (It's the number of the world/level, right?)
It's just a suggestion, tough.

I'll leave the "M1" there for now. Without it there's just empty space. Plus, I'm sure people would be interested in what its purpose is in the hack that has no levels.

Are you going to change the Bottom Screen background? It would look less empty then, I think.

I'm hoping to be able to change the default background to the NES Super Mario Bros. background, since it has the most content and I'd be able to experiment with it a bit.

EDIT: Time for another Pic of the Week!

Pic of the Week - Week 8

Secreted away somewhere in the Spooky Forest, Mario seems to have found something. It's some kind of building and it seems like it has some kind of importance. For whatever reason, Mario can't seem to get in there yet. I guess he'll have to come back later once he's a bit more well traveled to see what lays beyond. Just so you know, this particular location will not be accessible in the Demo release. Progress has been a bit slow for the last month, but to reiterate what I stated seven weeks ago, there will be between 4 or 5 levels worth of content in the demo. Though it'll be a lengthy area, the demo won't technically be open world since most of the pipes you'll find don't lead anywhere yet. But it demonstrates the total length from one edge of the map to another.

Also, as this screenshot indicates, there will be more content to Super Mario: Endless Earth that goes beyond the 2,016 screen overworld map. You'll just have to wait for the full release on that one.

that looks really nice! Great use of the NSMB Wii bowser door, Im really interested in how you open it tough.
Question, will it save that the dorr has been opened when you leave the area?

And a small suggestion for the demo, block of the pipes so you can see its not accesible in the demo.
(Also, I think i've figured out how the saving works)

It's worth pointing out that checkpointing has something to do with these doors.

The door will always be open once you've met the requirements to open it. I'm being very vague with this statement.
