That's fine by me. I won't be submitting a level for this contest, just didn't have the time.



Also, let's please talk about stuff in the discussion thread. This thread got cluttered up with non-submissions, and it's hard to find all submissions and make sure no one was missed.

So far, we have levels from: ray, nsmb_pro, and EL Mario.

Also, the warp to exit the bonus area is not-working. So you'll die. Please forgive this shit. I can't get it working

Probably, because like ray said, the 2 warps are toooo close to each other?
I find it kinda funny, that the maker of the editor doesn't have a plan of how to get a warp working.

Design

I liked your level design really. Especially at the end^^ There were some strange places, like The ramp and the small platform with a fireball in the middle. I got only ONE time trough it, without loosing "health". And you like smilies, right? xD

Polish

The ice spikes had some transparent pixels because the wall. This looked strange. And sometimes the snow on your volcano Tileset looked strange.

Design

Your way how to get to the underground cave was very nice and fun to play, but only the start. After a few seconds, I felt bored Its not too hard, but also not too easy. Your level looked a bit empty. I liked your edited platforms very much. They gave me the right feeling And the ground in front of the pipe to get to the rising lava, was also a nice trap. I thought first, it was normal ground xD I think you used too much ice blocks, which looked a bit weird after a while.

Polish

I noticed NOTHING wrong. (The warp at the end of the slope could be two blocks down, so you cant see mario anymore, but that does not matter )

Uhmm... Sorry, but I dont like it. Its WAAY too empty and designed all the same way. Go left-up, go right-up etc.

When you fall down the first slope, you can watch under the slope, that looks really weird
And my DS freeze when I try to shoot up to the next area trough the warp pipe.

He means that if there's a glitch, like the camera moving strangely, or enemy glitches in a certain area, that is caused by level design, not emulation. He did not state what DS crashing is, because that's not at the level design fault. That's caused by the process of patching, or invalid rom, or the thing that executes the program (such as a flashcart). So therefore, it shouldn't be stated at all.

It really comes down to the judge, but my personal stance is that if your level crashes or causes problems not related to emulation such as transparency etc, then it should be a matter of polish. I would have also taken points off for it not working on my DSTwo. I played each of these levels (even though Im not critiquing), and your game crashed for me at that point as well. Someone else's level also crashes when you enter it from the midway point, and I would have taken points off for that as well. I forget who's level it was, but it's the level with all the fire bars and insane difficulty at the start. The only emulator/flash card glitches I disregard are the graphical/speed ones. Really, my measure is: Does it work on the DS? If it does, then fine. If it doesn't, I take off points.

The original game plays flawlessly on the DS without any crashes or anything, and its not common for these types of crashes to happen. If your game crashes, then its a polish issue. Imagine if a level that Nintendo released didnt work on the DS, but only on emulators.

But there's so many things that could go wrong:
-Invalid ROM Dump
-Editor writes values that causes a crash. Like this.
-Placing the objects/having certain combinations of objects/sprites that cause the crash
And much more.

We can't possibly know exaclty what's going on. We're hacking a binary, remember?
The only reason Nintendo can get perfectly running games is because they have the frikin'

The thing we wish us hackers had access too. With them, we can find EXACTLY what goes wrong, and fix it.

Why should it be MY fault that this happened? I don't have a DS to test this on. We don't have the official development tools.

This problem shouldn't count towards my score.

I am completely the same opinion than ELMario. I don't think it is his fault. It Even ran on DESMUME.
This is a design contest after all and not a "Get a warp to work" Contest.
Dirbaio has also a warp that does not work and he gets 20/20 points in polish? Kinda unfair.
Otherwise, this is ray's decision and not mine. I cannot do anything about it.

Lol I think your level was harder xD
But I understand your opinion about the snailicorn
And the dry bones was complete ok I think. There were some places in your level which were more unfair
