Java with Apple software isn't Java in general. But still, there are some things I don't like with Java, one of them being the lack of unsigned types.

And, no. You'd have more chances of convincing me to buy a vBulletin license.

Reviving MKDS hacking is a challenge already…

But let's not give up yet. There has got to be a way to make this a reality. One of us could try to learn C# or we could still ask others.

I don't think using GC models on the DS would work well, given the DS's low poly count limits.


I'll probably make some quick Acmlmboardy theme for the new board, for the beginning. Once the board is set up, I'll ask for help in retrieving useful technical data from the DSHack wiki backups and posting them on the board.

People who had power at DSHack will not be given power immediately, because I don't know them well, and I'm not the 'I give you power because you're my friend' kind. However they will be given power if I feel that they deserve it. If they're active, helpful, not too harsh, etc...

I'll start working on the editor at the same time. I think I'll make it closed-source. It's an unusual decision for me to take, since I think closed-source has no place in ROM hacking, but it's kinda needed here. I don't want Gericom to copypaste my code and then claim he 'rewrote' his editor. Not giving out code is a better protection than any license, since uh, he doesn't care about licenses, and we don't have the legal power to enforce them anyway.

Regarding C# and decompilation: it'll be obfuscated, too

So you are making such a big project closed source, just to make it impossible to copy your code?
That is the wrong way to go.

Just think this way: Your program will always be better than any other MKDS Hacking tool written by someone else that has stolen your code. Or do you really think that a code stealer could make a better software than the software he has stolen the code from? I can promise you: No, he won't be able to.

And about the "C# or Java" thing. I would make it Java, because C# fails terribly in compatibility with Operating Systems other than Windows. You see what happens when someone wants to run NSMBe on a MAC or linux? Forms and other GUI stuff often gets screwed up. That would not happen when using Java.
But it is your decision, wether you code in C# or Java, since you'll be the main programmer in this project.

I'm not yet decided on the closed source part, because I want to reuse code from SM64DSe, and that is GPL, and the model importer code isn't 100% mine (among other things).

You're right, but I just don't want to see Geriderp steal my code and then go 'hey look i rewrote mkdscm its much beter now i r profesional programr dohohohohohoho'. But well, I can just take his shit down with my usual takedown skills

Regarding C# vs Java: the only real problem I had with C# was 3D not working right, but Fiachra found a fix. Try the last SM64DSe revisions and let me know if shit goes wrong.

I had a better experience with C#, so I will not go back to Java. No unsigned types, no reliable way to catch runtime exceptions without having to handle them all over the fucking place (have no console attached to your program and you do NOT know that something went wrong at all), annoying exception handling in general, no support for partial classes (comes in handy in SM64DSe's ROM handling code for example), only one class per file allowed (have fun making a billion files and directories), and it also feels less efficient (Whitehole seems less responsive than SM64DSe, on the other hand it renders more stuff, but still).

Okok. I am not so bad with C# than  Dirbaio. Java is just my favorite programming language and yeah, that is it. So take C#, it is not much of a concern for me, since I am only using Windows. (Yeah, besides my Ubuntu Live Disc I only have Windows. )

Java supports more classes in one class file. IMO it is just not beautiful if you fill one file with more classes. But that is going offtopic now...

IIRC, the issue with Dokan Course is that the textures aren't where the game expects them to be (they're in the same file as the rest, while the game wants them in a separate file, or vice versa).

I've even seen a video where someone fixed the textures. There are some other details that need fixing, though. Like the respawn points.

Crash team racing ds still alive, now i'm working in the first track, N. sanity island, and the design now is inverted, no Crash nitro kart character designs, now i will use the crash tag team racing ds designs in low poly.( i didn't will change the name, because can't be tag team, because mkds can't clash the vehicles :( )

The first beta will be like the mkds minimalistic demo, because only will have 2 tracks, 2 characters and all items, but the hack will be complete

i don't know, in this month i will try to buy an nds for my birthday.

3DS Rainbow Road is over 35% finished, the model have been modified from the BigOto0 version, but, with DS rainbow road stuff, textures, and very lower poly.
I think what i will add more 3DS Circuits, for making better this hack
